Global Issues Education

Leadership Positions for 2014

Global Issues Education (G.I.E.) is a student interest group at MHS established to
educate students about third world issues and to raise funds for worthwhile projects in
developing nations, where there is significant poverty, and underdevelopment.
Since 2006, G.I.E. has been a major supporter of charities such as World Vision, the
Oaktree Foundation, TEAR and others. All of these charities are committed to
assisting overseas communities that are in poverty or disadvantaged. We aim to
inform students about current issues of underdevelopment and also assist
communities that may be particularly disadvantaged through poverty, natural
disasters, war, disease and exploitation.
The G.I.E. Executive serves as a vital and integral aspect of G.I.E., allowing for better
organization and coordination within the club. As a result, we are seeking students
whom possess not only the passion, but also the leadership skills to effectively guide
the way that G.I.E. conducts itself throughout next year.
The executive will assist in G.I.E.s decision making process, the organising and
coordination of events such as the 40 hour famine, the GIE Forum and casual clothes
day, and other various management duties. Meetings will be held on average twice a
month for G.I.E. Executive members, allowing members to still focus on school and
other activities.
The committee will be broken up into several positions, which are:

President (Open to only current Year 11 students in 2013)

Vice President (Open to only current 11 students in 2013)

Secretary (Open to only to current 10 and 11 students in 2013)

Assistant Secretary (Open to only to current 10 and 11 students in 2013)

4 School representatives ( Two positions available to current Yr 10 and 11

students in 2013 and two positions available to current Yr 9 students in 2013.)

These prominent positions within the club are open to all current G.I.E. students,
unless specified elsewhere. To fill these positions, an application of no more than one
