(Scene opens in the Boys and Girls Club at the check-out desk.
It is Friday evening in late fall. It is unusually quiet as it
is just before closing and there is only child left to be picked
up. Libby is waiting for her son Andy to get his things and is
talking with Olivia who is currently working check- out at the
desk. Libby looks tired, and everything about her, including her
outfit, appears as if they have been working too much.)

Olivia:
(As Libby and Andy leave, Olivia glances worriedly at the clock.
She pulls out her phone and dials a number.)
Hello, my name is Olivia Blaire; I was wondering if
you had my test results for me. (She pauses, listening
to the voice on the other end and then gasps) Are you
sure? (Pauses briefly) Okay, thank you. You have a
nice evening too. Goodbye. (She hangs up)
(Olivia sinks to the ground with her knees to her chest, her
face buried in her hands. Her shoulders shake as she cries for a
moment. She then stands up and begins to pace)
It cant be right; it must be a false positive or
something. And Adrianoh no. Adrian. (She stops and
rubs her arm reflexively) What am I going to do? I
should probably just (she trails off and stops,
looking into the distance. Her face hardens and looks
more determined. She takes a deep breath trying to
calm herself) Okay, how do I do this. (practicing
talking to him/imagining it) Adrian. Theres
something I wanted to tell youno, (sound of
exasperation) I need to talk to you about

Mommy, why are you working all the time? I miss you.
We dont get to play as much and it doesnt feel like

Libby:
Andy:
Yeah!
Libby:
Little Red Hen went into the kitchen and used the
flour to make a little loaf of bread. As the bread
finished baking, the other animals came and asked if
they could have some of the delicious smelling bread.
The Little Red Hen asked if they had helped her plant
the seeds, harvest the wheat or mill the flour. All
the animals said no they hadnt. The Little Red Hen
said You are right, I did all the work all by myself
so I will eat the bread all by myself. And she did.
The end.

SCENE THREE
[Scene opens in a battered womens shelter. Olivia enters
carrying an overnight bag. She has a new black eye and
is looking around insecurely. One of the women takes
pity on her and gestures her over. They start to talk,
however none of it is audible. The womans daughter,
Sophie, enters and her mother attempts to wave her
over but she ignores her mother and keeps walking.
Olivia stands up and walks over to Sophie]
Olivia: That was kind of rude, dont you think?
Sophie: (looks at Olivia skeptically) Im not in the mood for a
lecture right now, from my mother or some stranger who
thinks she can fix my life even though hers is clearly
just as screwed up!
Olivia: (defensively) Fine, you do whatever you want; Im just
saying that your mother loves you and is extremely
proud of you. She wouldnt stop bragging about you
over there.
Sophie: (curiously, slightly less hostile) Really? She was?
Olivia: Yes, she kept saying how smart and talented you are;
shes just worried that you might not be hanging out
with the best people.
Sophie: (immediately shuts down) Oh Yeah?! Well she needs to but
out of my life and stop trying to control who I am
friends with, I know what is best for me and I can
choose my own friends! (She storms off. Olivia looks
after her for a second and then rejoins the group of
women who had been watching the exchange)

Sophie: (sighs) I know. I never was really that close with any
of them. After my mom and I left my dad and came here,
it kind of felt like that was the only thing I could
do, like they were the only ones who would understand
because a lot of them know what its like. But they
really dont; we dont really have anything in common.
(she sighs again) I dont really know how to leave
them though.
Olivia:
Constellations: Sophie
SOPHIE.
THERE, IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY, YOU CAN JUST SEE THE NORTHERN STAR.
DOESNT MATTER HOW LOST YOU ARE, THAT BRIGHT WHITE LIGHT WILL GUIDE
YOU HOME.
IVE BEEN LOST AND WANDERING,
BUT MAYBE NOW ITS TIME TO CHANGE MY COURSE AND RE-CHART MY LIFE
AND IT FEELS LIKE IVE BEEN WAITING MY WHOLE LIFE FOR THIS MOMENT,

ALL MY LIFE HAS BEEN A CONSTELLATION,
I COULD SEE WHERE I WAS MEANT TO GO. BUT NOW, I DONT KNOW.
THE STARS ARE SHIFTING.
I CAN FEEL THE TIDES CHANGE WITH THE EARTHS ROTATION,
AND MY SITUATION WILL NEVER BE THE SAME
ITS BEEN A HARD TIME, AND IVE PUSHED AWAY THOSE CLOSE TO ME, I KNOW

I KNOW THAT IVE BEEN WAITING ALL MY LIFE FOR THIS MOMENT,
FATE IS CALLING MY NAME THROUGH THE WIND AND SNOW
THERES NO TURNING BACK TO THE LIFE THAT I HAD,
BEFORE MY EYES WERE SHUT TIGHT, BUT NOW I SEE:
THE UNIVERSE IS WORKING THROUGH ME.
I THINK ITS TIME I CHART MY OWN CONSTELLATION,
MAKE A NEW MAP, AND GO, GO, GO.
(she exits)

I knew that you were able to do much more than you had
been doing before. Im just wondering, What caused
