Directions: Tutor students or a small group of students needing scaffolding in reading or writing.

1. Did you tutor students individually or in small groups?

I tutored a student individually.

2. What reading or writing strategies did you use in tutoring the student?
I used MClass monitoring in his TRC level. He read two books, Best of Friends and City
and Country. He read the stories. He answered questions that dealt with inference,
creativity, story retelling and opinion.

3. Did the students accept your help or were they reluctant?

He and I have worked together before and he accepted my help.

4. After tutoring the student(s), did they have a better understanding of the
assignment? How do you know?
He seemed to have a better understanding. When he read the second book, he was able
to retell a little better. He was beginning to grasp the idea of inference and he used his
imagination to tell me a story that related to himself. He was happy that he could tell
me what he liked about the stories and what he did not like about them.
5. What CCSS ELA Standards did you cover during your time with the student?
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.2.4.a
Read grade-level text with purpose and understanding.
He reads at a grade level just below third grade. His teachers goal is to bring him up to a
level M or N, which is a late 2nd grade to a 3rd grade reading level.
