Party Time
The story "The Party" by Hyperbole and a Half is narrative about a young girl who is
determined to attend her friend's birthday party, but sadly has tooth surgery scheduled for the
same day. The young girls mother explains that she cannot attend the party because she will
still be recovering from the surgery. However, the young girl manages to convince her mother
that if she appears fine after surgery she can go to the party, so she constructs the idea of running
to the end and back of the park. Post-surgery, after regaining consciousness the young girl
remembers her idea and unsuccessfully tries to yell park but yells "parp". Naturally, her mother
has no idea what she's saying, so as a response the young girl chooses to fling open the car door
on the freeway to walk to the park herself, luckily she failed to unlock her seatbelt. Post
incidence the mother decides to take the young girl to Jack in the Box to eat. When the mother
leaves to go stand in line, panic sets into the young girl causing her to yell for other mother, but
only manages to yell "moum" which causes her seem as if she has a disability. In response the
mother tells the young girl to stop; however it appears as if she's taunting her, ultimately causing
her to give in and let her daughter attend the party.
