Problem 1

Given:

Figures (a), (b) and (c) are independent bodies.
Lengths:
AB = 2.5 m
AC = 5 m
DE = 3 m
DF = 5 m
FG = 2 m
HI = 5 m
IJ = 1 m
IK = 2 m
KL = 1 m
Calculate the internal forces in B, E and J, ie axial, shear and bending moment.
Problem 2
The Wicked White Witch strikes again. Little Boyet rejects Princess
Bukangliwayway's hand in marriage and WWW says it is like a slap in the face and
she will not take the insult sitting down. So she decides to play the Hangman Game
with LB but in reverse. She will cut off LB's limbs one by one until nothing is left

hanging on the rope. In the meantime PB is crying her pretty little head off. She
cried so much that Pasig is now overflowing, disrupting traffic in front of Megamall.
WWW says she will spare LB if he can answer her question: What are the internal
stresses at F?
But for every wrong answer she will cut off a limb, starting with the right arm, then
the left arm, then the left leg, then the neck and finally the right leg. The other
relevant info are as follows: cable AB is 3.7 m, BC is 1 m, CD is 0.3 m, BE is 1 m, EF
is 0.7 m, FG is 1.6 m. LB lost 1 kg from all the worrying, so he now weighs just a
hair over 44 kg. Can you help Little Boyet save his limbs?
