IE 111 Statics, Tutorial Sheet 11

Problem 1

Given:
P = 15 N, w = 3 N/m
Lengths:
AB = 5 m, BC = 10 m, BG = 5 m, CD = 5 m, DE = 10 m
Calculate the internal forces & moments at G, and at H located just a little to the left
of D.
Problem 2

Given:
P = 25 N, w = 6 N/m
Lengths:
AB = 5 m, BC = 10 m, CD = 10 m, CG = 5 m, DE = 5 m
Calculate the internal forces & moments at G.
Problem 3
A Dancing Irish Leprechaun, who can pirouette for ten hours at a time without
break, claims that he has the power to overcome the Wicked White Witch but he will
not reveal his magic unless the internal forces at G and H in the beam below are
determined. His only clue is that the tension in cable FC is 100 N. Can you save
Little Boyet?

The beam AC is supported by hinge at A and cable at C. AB = 1 m; AG = 0.5 m; BC

= 2 m; BH = 0.5 m; BD = 0.3 m and DE = 1 m.
