Problem 1

Little Boyet managed to get away from the Hungry Crocodiles but was not fast
enough for the Wicked White Witch. "Death by Compression", cried WWW between
her clenched teeth, seething with rage. She put LB under a ball support of a truss,
wishing to compress him to death. She put kettle bells weighing 10 kg each on top
of joints B, D, F, H and J. For good measure she suspended solid lead balls weighing
50 kg each from joints E and G. WWW shouted at the top of her voice, "If anyone
wishes to save this little rascal, let him calculate the internal forces in members DF,
FG, GH and GI, using the method of sections." Can anyone out there save our little
hero? Bukangliwayway is tearing her hair. She only knows the method of joints!
Problem 2

The Wicked White Witch is extremely mortified. It frustrates her so much that she
could not quite kill Little Boyet. But she will try once more and as often as
necessary. Now she wants to kill LB by stretching his body and tearing out his

limbs. At this very moment she is cranking up the spring and increasing the tension
in CE. LB however has continued to mystify the WWW; he is laughing in the most
annoying manner. Secretly, he knew that once the internal force in member AC
reaches 550 N, that member would fail and the torture machine would collapse.
Calculate how much tension Little Boyet must first endure before he frustrates
WWW once more.
