Beginning Spanish Cultural Presentation Reflection

How does this assignment (Cultural presentation) or course connect with what you learned in another Gen
Ed course?
This course connects too many of my classes, but in particular it connects to my business calculus class. I
feel there is a connection between the two because of the way in which the concepts are taught. In math, if
you do not practice it will be very difficult to understand the concept and it will continue to be difficult to
learn the following concepts. It is just like that in Spanish, in order to be able to grasp preterit
conjugations you must first be able to understand conjugations in general and so on. One concept must be
taught before the other so that the following concepts will make sense. Just like addition is taught before
division and exponents because the foundation of addition is necessary to understand the implications of
the following concepts such as division and exponents.

--What impact did the assignment have on you or your understanding of the world? Did it challenge any
of your assumptions?
I feel that this assignment was very impactful to me in understanding how difficult it is to speak a foreign
language. Another course of mine required presentations and one of the groups was all foreign exchange
students from China and they couldnt speak English very fluently. Some of the kids in the class were
chuckling, but instead I was admiring them for having the bravery to learn a foreign language.

--How does this assignment illustrate the growth/change/progression you have had in this class?
This assignment illustrates the amount of growth Ive experienced throughout this class perfectly. In the
beginning of the course I could barely pronounce my Spanish alphabet correctly and now I was able to do
a complete presentation in Spanish and then answer the follow up questions as well. While creating my
presentation I was actually quite surprised at how much I have learned. I took a beginning Spanish class
in 8th grade, but Ive learned more in this last 4 months than I did in the entire year of my 8th grade
Spanish. I look forward to advancing to the next levels of Spanish speaking and hope to one day be fluent.
I could not have seen that as possible when I first started this class.
