Down On Deansgate

Project name: Down On Deansgate

Outline of idea:
Down On Deansgate will be a scripted reality set in
Manchester, on Deansgate road. We plan for the programme to
be aired on e4 at 9pm. We will have dramatic and interesting
storylines that will interest the audience. The idea for the
programme is based on a group of young individuals that have
been brought up in the rich part Manchester, which they have
come from a wealthy background and are living a privileged
lifestyle. In the trailer for this particular series, they are put in
awkward social situations. We have 3 separate storylines in the
trailer which are mainly based around relationship problems.
The trailer in which we are making is part of the 6th series to the
programme and will show on going drama from the previous
series. In the trailer, we plan to show the intense, hard
decisions they will have to make whether its between
friendships or if its with a partner. In the trailer, in one of our
storylines, we have a guy that returns back to Deansgate after
a long trip and secretly dates two girl who are best friends, in
which he is later found out. Our second story line is about a
couple who are having issues as the guy is moving to America
with his familys business and his girlfriend is staying in
Manchester. The guy wants his girlfriend to go but she wants to
stay.

Narratives: Affairs, fights, jealousy, betrayal,

Story 1

Sully who is a handsome man with a bad past returns to

Deansgate after moving away. He is friends with Jasper (who
lives on Deansgate Rd) and he goes out with him to meet all
his friends.
Story 2
Sully develops an attraction for both of Jaspers friends- Paris
and Fifi, in which they are best friends. Sully separately asks
both of them for their phone number. As he secretly takes them
out on dates without both of them knowing, the two girls begin
to like Sully. Paris and Fifi are sat in a caf talking when Paris
gets a text of Sully asking her out on a date. Fifi asks who is it
from and so she explains. The two best friends discover that he
has taken them both out and so they plan to go and confront
him. Sully expects a date with only one of the girls but both of
them turn up.
Story 3
Troy and Zara are strong couple in which they face a hard
decision. Troy is moving away to America with his family for
their family business. Troy gives Zara an ultimatum in which its
either stay in Manchester and break-up or to go to America with
him and so she will leave her friends and family behind. Zara
finds herself in a predicament in which she cant get out of.

Character Profiles:

Sullivan Kingsley(Sully)
Sully is a 22 year old male who once used to live in Manchester on
Deansgate Road and comes from a wealthy family. He moved away
from Manchester as his relationships between old friends were too
much as he caused many arguments which led his friends to hate him.
He still keeps in contact with his best friend Jasper, who thought it was
about time Sully returned to Deansgate. Sully is very good looking with
an expensive taste in clothes and now lives in his own flat on
Deansgate. He is confident, outgoing and fun but he is known for
ruining relationships as he likes the attention from women. When in
Manchester, he meets the best friends Paris and Fifi in which he takes
them both out on dates without any of them knowing.

Troy Pennington
Troy is a 24 year old male who lives on Deansgate Rd with his girlfriend
Zara. He is part of his familys business of clothing wear and plans to
take the business further. He is a quiet and intelligent character who is
born into his familys wealth and so is living his life in luxury. He is put in
a predicament as he has just moved away from Manchester to live in
America. He has to think what is more important: the popularity and
wealth from his business or his girlfriend who was left in Manchester on
her own.

Zara Kensington
Zara Is a 23 year old female that lives with her boyfriend Troy in their
new flat on Deansgate Road. She is an intelligent and creative woman
who has her own fashion business She likes to hang out in cafes and
bars with her friends Skylar, Paris and Fifi.

Paris Lonsdale
Paris is 20 years old and currently lives in a house with her bestfriend
Fifi. She doesnt have a job and just lives off her familys money. Paris
is outgoing and confident and can be quite argumentative when things
dont go her way. She is also known for attracting a lot of male

attention. Her and Fifi are very loyal with each other and wouldnt do
anything to jeopardise their relationship.

Felicity (Fifi) Westwood

Best friends with Paris, the 21 year old is more reserved and doesnt
like confrontation. She lets Paris take control and she also shares a
house with her. Fifi doesnt have a job but aspires to bring her own
make-up brand out. She is always up to date with the latest fashion
trends and likes to socialise in expensive bars and restaurants.

Skylar Ashbrunum
Skylar is bestfriends with the couple Troy and Zara. She is 24 years old
and is known as the sensible one in the whole group of friends. Even
though shes sensible, she likes to gossip and stir up arguments for her
entertainment. She has her own shoe brand and wants to take it further
as she is a capitalist. She likes to go shopping and drinking.

Jasper Winfield
Jasper is best friends with sully and is known for being the nice guy.
He is the peacemaker of the group and tries to sort out his friends
problems. He is 20 years old and is a professional polo player. He is a
friendly guy but he likes to gossip.

Target Audience
Our target audience is young adults and older teenagers between the
age of 16- 25 as it would appeal to them more because the majority of
the characters in the soap will be of a similar age. Our programme will
be more aimed towards a female audience as of the glamour content
and of the female drama. Although, we have content in which the males
will enjoy, eg: The group of men going out to play polo or go shooting.
We will target our programme at groups at C1, C2 and D of the socioeconomic groups as our soap is about a higher class of people. People
already living this lifestyle wont be interested as its a normality to
them. Whereas, people in a lower socio-economic group will want to be
like these characters and so theyll be interested in how they live and
how to be like these people.

Reasons as to why the idea will work (broadcast time, demand for
style of show, mass/niche appeal)
We will broadcast this programme at 9:00pm on Mondays on E4.This
will work as from our research, teenagers and young adults1 rate this
as their favourite channel. We will give it a week between episodes as
this will build up and tension and drama from the previous episode,
getting the audience excited for the episode ready to come. This idea
will work because teenagers and young adults arent represented in a
way that they are rich and posh and so there is a niche gap in the
market for this type of soap. As our scripted reality is set in Manchester,
it would help interest the entire the entire northern half of the UK as it
more relatable and relevant to a northern audience.
