Audience research analysis

Most and least favourite sub genres.

From my findings in the survey, the most favourite sub-genre was scripted reality
as Made In Chelsea was voted the most favourite programme. I found that the
least favourite sub-genre was social realism as both programmes Emmerdale
and Eastenders were voted to be the participants least favourite Soap opera.

Most and least favourite storylines.

The most favourite storylines were, affairs, romance and murder.I would avoid
using murder in my trailer as we plan for it ti be a scripted reality in which you do
not see in this sub-genre. The least favourite storyline was domestic situations.

What your audience want more of.

From my results, the participants mainly wanted more drama in their
programmes, also they would like to watch better storylines in the programmes.

Which channel should you broadcast on according to your

findings?
According to my findings, as scripted reality was the most favourite sub-genre,
and E4 was the most favourite channel, I should broadcast it on E4 as the most
popular and it also already has a scripted reality being broadcasted.

What time will your programme be broadcasted?

My programme will be broadcasted in the evening as my results show that the
majority of participants watch it mainly at night. Also, I plan to include elements
which would be suitable at a later time in the day.

How do you think the channel and time of broadcast will affect
the themes and sub-genre of your trailer?
The channel in which the programme will be broadcasted on will have a certain
audience on the age and topic of the programmes broadcasted. For example, the
social realism sub-genre, like Coronation Street, will be broadcasted on ITV
where it has a target audience for an older age range, with more serious topics
on the programmes. Whereas, for a scripted reality, like Made In Chelsea it is
broadcasted on a channel with a younger age range that also has a similar
theme to all the other programmes on the channel it is broadcasted on, E4. We
plan for our trailer to be a scripted reality .Typical themes on E4 are infidelity,
relationships and arguments that are all relatable for the younger audience. The
channel we broadcast our trailer on will affect our sub-genre as we want to fit
with the themes and storylines which are typically used in programmes on the
channel E4. The time will also affect the themes and sub-genre as if we wanted
to include explicit language or have fights in which you usually see in scripted
realities, we will have to broadcast it after the 9pm Watershed as it would not be
suitable for younger audiences.
