ThissourceisanacademicjournalthatwaswrittenbySerifeAk,Nermin
Koruklu,andYusufYilmaz.Theystudiedinternetuse,notjustfocusingonaddictionin
butonhowitaffectstheadolescentsaswell.Theystudiedbothmalesandfemales,
agesrangingfrom1519,eachofthembeingastudentinhighschool.Thisstudy's
purposewastolookatwhythisaddictionismorecommoninadolescentsthanother
addictionsare,andwhatsomepredictorsofthisaddictionare.Variablesthatcontribute
tointernetaddictionaretheadolescentsgender,amountofprivacythattheyhave,their
accesstoacomputerandtotheinternet,andtheirfamiliesincomelevels.The
conclusionofthisstudystatesthatsinceinternetisthemostconvenientformof
communicationforthisagegroupalongwithimportanceofcommunicatingwiththeir
peerscanresultinaddictiontoSocialMediasites,likeFacebook.Femalesaremore
likelytousetheinternetforcommunicatingwithothersthroughthesesites,whilemales
aremorelikelytousetheinternetforreadingoronlinegaming.Theirresearchfound
thatwhatadolescentsusetheinternetforcanbeapredictorofInternetAddiction,those
whoareaddictedspendmoretimeusingtheinternetforsocialuseorgamingrather
thanresearch,work,orhomework.Thestudyconcludesbysayingthatwithmonitored
timeforcomputeruseandmonitoringwhattheadolescentsareusingthecomputerfor
thatInternetAddictionislesslikelytooccur.
TwoofthethreeauthorsofthissourcehavetheirPhDs,showingthattheyare
educatedpeople.Listedinthissourceweremanyreferencesshowingthattheauthors
lookeddeeplyintothistopic,andlookedatotherresearchthathasbeendone.Allofthe
evidencethattheypresentedintheirstudiesseemsaccurate,therearemanycharts
andgraphsthatshowhowtheyfoundtheirevidence,theyalsostatethemethodsused.
Ifoundthattheywerenotbiased,butthoughtfulintheirwritingbecausetheystatednot
justsignsofInternetAddiction,buttreatmentsaswell.Overall,Ifoundthatthiswasa
crediblesourcewithgoodinformation.
Informationpresentedinthisacademicjournalwillbevaluabletomeinmyoral
presentationbecauseitgavemeinsightonaddictioninadolescents,whichhelpedme
relatemorecloselytomytopicbecausetheyarestudyingmyagegroup.Connecting
InternetAddictiontoSocialMedia,whichwehavebeenlearningabout,willbeeasier
donewiththehelpoftheinformationfoundthroughthissource.Thisagegroupfindsan
importanceincommunicatingwithothers,anduseSocialMediatodothatbecauseof
itsconvenience.Monitoringcomputeruse,andwhatyouareusingthecomputerforis
onewaytopreventInternetAddictionhappening.

depressionconnectwithoneanother.Theyfoundthattherearemanydifferencesinthe
definitionofInternetAddiction,becauseofthemanydifferentconceptsandperceptions
ofinternetmisuse.Internetaddictionaffectsmanyaspectsoftheindividualslife,such
astheirworkintheirprofessionallife,theirsociallife,andtheirrelationshipswiththeir
friendsaswellastheirfamilies.Theystatethatinternetaddictionisaproblemwith
youngstersbecausetheymisusetheinternet.Theirstudyfoundthatlonelinessand
depressionarebothpredictorsofInternetAddiction,butselfesteemisnot.Peoplewho
arelonelyinreallifeandwhofinddifficultieswithfacetofacecommunicationgotothe
internetbecauseitiseasiertocommunicatewithpeople.Withmoreadvancementsand
newtechnologiescomingoutinternetaddictionislikelytobecomemorepopular,
watchingforsignsofInternetAddictioninteensisimportantbecauseitcanresultin
psychologicaldamage.
BothauthorsofthissourceareprofessorsatSakaryaUniversity,eventhough
theymaynotteachanythingthathastodowithInternetAddictionthisshowsthatthey
arewelleducated.Evidencethattheyfoundintheirresearchisaccuratebecause
explainsthemethodsusedtofindtheirresearch.Theyarenotbiased,theystatethat
anyonewiththisaddictionshouldseekhelpbeforeitleadstopsychologicaldamage,
theyarenotjudgementalintheirresearchorwritingofthetopic.Overall,thissource
wascrediblebutwouldbemorecredibleifithadmoreabouttheauthorsandtheir
motivationinresearchingthis.

presentationbecauseitgaveinsightonreallifeproblemsthatmayleadtoInternet
Addiction.Knowingthatbeingdepressed,orlonelycanleadtoescapingthroughthe

everybodyrealizes.Peoplemaybemisusing,oroverusingtheinternetwithouteven
realizingit.Theydonotresearchanytreatmentsforthisaddictionbutstatethatyou

abouttheauthororhavingothersourceslistedwouldhavemadethewebsitemore
credible.

numberofavatarsregisteredonlinehasdoubledfrom13milliontoover20million,this

used.Theywerenotbiasedintheirresearchandpresentedclearinformation.Overall,I
foundthistobeacrediblesource.

presentation,sincewehavediscussedthatourgenerationusestheinternetthemostit
isunderstandablethatInternetAddictionislikelytobecomethatmostserious

growingfrom13millionto20millioninthepasttwoyears,willbehelpfultogivepeople
anideaofhowmanypeopleareonlineusingtheinternet.Theystatedthatsymptoms

Theylookintotheriskfactorsofinternetaddictioninadolescents,theyfocuson
adolescentsbecauseaddictionisanincreasingproblemforthem.Theirstudyfoundthat
internetaddictionismorecommonifyouareamale,theystatethatmalesare50%

academicachievement,InternetAddictionisagoodpredictorfortheirsocialskillsand
academicachievements.Meaningthatwhenaddictiontotheinternetincreasesthat
theirsocialskillsandacademicachievementsdecrease.Thisstudystatesthataddiction
isthesameinbothmalesandfemales,thatnoonegenderismorelikelytobeaddicted.
Changingthepatternofyourinternetuse,andmonitoringthetimeandmannerofyour
internetuseareeffectivewaystomakesurethatyoudonotbecomeaddicted.
