Brochure
Description:
This is a two-sided (duplex) folding brochure.
Date:
December 7, 2014
Course/Instructor:
Visual Media
Ben Pingel
Section 08
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Indesign
Adobe Illustrator
Objectives:
Create a brochure all about Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Process:
I used Adobe InDesign and opened a new, two-paged document. It was landscape
oriented. My theme for this project was Temple Square in Salt Lake City.
I split the pages into three equal sections using the ruler tool. Then I added gutters
for the text so that it would have plenty of space. Then I added my images. For the
front flap I decided to use a picture of the front view of the Salt Lake City Temple.
On the inner fold I used an image of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. On the
inside, I used a picture of the Church Office Building quad that spanned over the
three inside flaps. Then I added white boxes using the rectangle tool. I put them at
85% opacity so you could faintly see the image behind them. I added text boxes inside the rectangles that contained information including a short history of Temple
Square, fun facts, and a list and description of some of the sites. I added a picture
of the Christus and wrapped some of the paragraph text around it. I made the
back of the brochure solid blue, and added my logo, which is also blue, and some
contact information for Temple Square.

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop
Canon PowerShot A2300 HD camera
Objectives:
Create a photodesign using a color scheme based on the photo.
Process:
For this project I used my textbook, Visual FOCUS, to choose a color scheme. I
decided to go with a tetradic color scheme. Then I went and I took a photo of my
little sister playing with blocks that were painted the same colors as those in my
color scheme. To take this picture I set up a lamp so that my sister was being lit from
the side. I used a Canon PowerShot A2300 HD camera for this shot. I opened the
image in Adobe Photoshop and edited it using the four basic edits: levels, vibrance/
saturation, selective color, and sharpness. I created an 8.5 in by 11 in layout. Using
my color scheme, I added several circles to create repetition. I placed four of these
circles at the top to make my swatch. I created text that would curve with the circles
to name my swatches.

Objectives:
Create a spiritual montage about the LDS missionaries.
Process:
For this project I found four images. One of the Elders, one of the sister missionaries, one of the globe, and one of the parchment in the background. In Photoshop,
I added a masking layer to the photos of the sisters, the Elders, and teh globe. I
blended the images together using the paintbursh tool. Then I went into Illustrator
and made a clipping of the parchment background. Then I brought it into Photoshop and placed it in the bottom right hand corner of the design. Then I added a
quote about the missionaries.

Objectives:
Create an event flier adverstising a baby clothes charity drive.
Process:
I inserted an old family photo into Microsoft Word and created a solid color background. Then using the rectangle tool I created four rectangles and rotated them
so that their lengths were at an angle. Then I pulled them into the corners, leaving
only one side showing so that it filled in the corners. I inserted a white rectangle
and aligned it with the picture. I put all of the information in an old style text
inside the white rectangle. I inserted seven diamond shapes and colored them
according to my color scheme to add repetition and rhythm. I then created to
black rectangles and put them above and below the picture and the rectangle with
the text. I used a decorative font to contrast with the old style font, and I wrote the
event and the date.

Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:
Create a webpage to describe and showcase my origianl logo. Learn and use a
code editor.
Process:
For this webpage I used the program TextWrangler. I linked an html file and a
css file together to created the webpage. The first thing I did was I inserted all of
my text into an html file. I added my image to that file as well. Then I attached a
pre-written css file. Using this file I changed the font of my headers and I changed
the background color as well as the text color. I used colors from my logo. I used
the eyedropper tool in Photoshop to find the hex codes for these colors, and then I
plugged the hex code into my css file. I changed the padding around the top header
so the text wasnt crowded, and then I centered my logo so the webpage felt more
balanced.
