Topic: Electricity

Date: 14 November 2014

Class: Form 2

Duration: 1hr 05 mins

Aim:
Increase the students awareness on the concept of Measurement of current and different circuits
connection.
Objectives:
After completing this lesson, students will be able to:
a) Explore the chemical origin of energy in an electrical circuit
b) Explain how an ammeter can be used to measure current in a circuit and describe how to vary
current in a circuit.
c) Distinguish between a series and a parallel circuit

Brainstorming:
A recap on previous lessons will be made through questioning where students will need to
identify the various circuits symbols
Draw a circuit diagram
Introduction Whole Class
Use a torch to introduce the lesson ask leading questions such as:
how do you think a torch works?
do you know what is inside the torch
how a battery works
how did you make the current flow through the light bulb?
Development

Activity 1:
Discuss by using leading questions such as:
state some instrument used to measure different physical quantity
Introduce the new instrument ammeter.
Teacher explains how an ammeter works, the different types and placed in a circuit.
Activity 2:
Students will be asked to read on an analogue ammeter.
Activity 3:
To distinguish between the concept of series and parallel circuit, an analogy will be used.
Different diagrams will be shown to differentiate between these two.
Evaluation
A worksheet will be displayed to assess whether the students are able to distinguish the between
series and parallel circuits
A task will be given where each student will need to build up different series and parallel circuits
and compare the brightness of a bulb.
