The Reflective Leader

Internal and External Reflection:

When Your Inner Thoughts Become Your Professional Voice
On the growth journey for leading in education thus far--the reflective process in
the Doane EDL program has helped me apply meaning to my experiences beyond
immediate circumstances. Documenting my learning has helped me understand both
what and how I am thinking. Furthermore, I have found that sharing realizations with
others has guided me from a newly amplified base of shared knowledge. To illustrate
my pointI lifted comments with a similar topic strand from various reflections that I
have written from day one to show the progression in my thinking:
1) My relationships with students,
colleagues, parents, and other stakeholders
are my point of reference for practice in
special education in my current role as a
teacher Application Process-March, 2013

2) Increased Parent Communication

A stated goal from my Focus Circle EDL
675-June, 2013

The selected quotes referenced here show the following cognitive progression: 1) Leading is about me 2) Leading is a goal to help
others 3) Leading requires more than a goalit requires strategic thinking 4) Leading is about serving others
