The quality of a DEM is a measure of how accurate the elevation is at each pixel
(absolute accuracy) and how accurately the morphology is presented (relative
accuracy). Key attributes of a good DEM data are its homogeneity and
consistency. Automatic DEM extraction procedures may induce certain
inconsistencies. Therefore, the challenge is to preserve these qualities through
post-processing / finishing process, in an iterative and interactive manner.
Many problems are encountered in any automatic DEM production chain. In this
paper, the specific problems of DEM over Water bodies: Water body flattening,
Sink / spikes / voids and mosaic distortions are studied and software solutions
are developed:
