The last few years have been pretty dynamic when it comes to Indian

Education and this year is going to witness a newly reformed engineering

entrance exam system. With all the confusion and rumours clouding the future
lets have a look at what all the fuss is about.
The entrance process is now two-tiered, with the former AIEEE dubbed as JEEMains and the former IIT-JEE renamed as JEE-Advanced. Whats new here is
that only the top 1.5 lakh students from JEE-Mains, the first exam would be
allowed to sit for JEE-Advanced, the next stage exam.
Also, the Class 12 Board exam marks would be given consideration at both
stages of exam in different ways. A candidates All India Rank (AIR) will be a
combination of 40% weightage to normalised 12th Board Exam marks and 60%
weightage to his JEE-Main score. The AIR obtained from JEE-Mains would be
used for taking admission in all NITs, IIITs, IIST and other CFTIs as was the norm
with AIEEE before.
For any query regarding JEE-Main, refer to their official site,

For JEE-Advanced, the Class 12 Board exam results would only be used for
qualification purpose, i.e. to set the bare minimum that a student should have
to sit in JEE-Advanced. This year, a candidate must have a minimum of 80
percentile in their respective Board Exams to sit in JEE-Advanced. The
important thing to note here is that 80 percentile indicates the top 20% of the
students from their respective boards. Therefore the cutoff would be different
for different Boards; for example, CBSE Class 12 Board exam would have 78.6%
aggregate as their cut-off if last years marks were to be taken into
consideration.
The AIR obtained in JEE-Advanced would be used for admission into the IITs,
ISM Dhanbad, IISER and IT-BHU, as was the norm with IIT-JEE before.
