ISSUE BASED ON THE JEE MAINS AND ADVANCED

K. SAIGANESH, (JEE ASPIRENT)

TO,

THE IIT BOMBAY,

BOMBAY,

10/05/2023.

SUB: Issue about criteria and number of attempts in JEE examinations.

Firstly, I will talk about the total issue we are facing right now.

1. Issue about eligibility criteria for admission in IITS AND NITS.

2. Increase in the number of attempts in Jee advanced from two consecutive years to three

consecutive years same as Jee mains (the Jee mains conducting in three consecutive

years).

3. The NTA must release information bulletin before the year of examination in the months

of May, June, July.

I will explain clearly the issue.

1. Issue about eligibility criteria for admission in IITS AND NITS.

Firstly, we discussed some questions.

Q1. What are the definition criteria?

“a standard by which something can be judged or decided” meaning of criteria given by the

google dictionary.

Q2. What are the eligibility criteria we should need to get in admissions in IITS and NITS?
[Last Name] 2

For, JEE Main 2023 Eligibility Criteria: Admissions to NITs, IIITs and GFTIs.

NITs/IIITs/GFTIs Admission: Students who have passed class 12th class with a minimum of

75% marks or they score top 20 percentile in their class (65% for SC/ST candidates) are eligible.

JEE Advanced 2023 Eligibility Criteria has been modified by the IITs. A candidate

must have secured at least 75% aggregate marks in the class 12 (or equivalent) board

examination or must be within the top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their respective

class 12 examination.

Q3. By decreasing the 75% criteria to 50% criteria will the standards of IITS and NITS

decrease?

My answer is absolutely A BIG NO.

Q4. By the 12th marks will the candidates be decided as good students or not?

In my opinion, the 12th marks cannot decide whether he/she is a bright student or not.

Marks cannot define the student's ability.

If it depends then why NEET candidates have 50% criteria. But JEE candidates have 75%

criteria.

NEET and JEE both are admission exam to write to get admission into Top institutes.

NEET is entrance exam for medical aspirants and JEE is entrance exam for engineering

aspirants. Both exams were conducted by the NTA (National Testing Agency). They were

showing Partiality.

NEET and JEE have almost the same syllabus in PHYSICS and CHEMISTRY. But

the difference in the third subject for both. NEET has BIOLOGY and JEE has MATHS.

Once look at the eligibility criteria of NEET EXMAINATION.

[Last Name] 3

Eligibility Criteria for NEET 2023: Must have completed class 12 with a

minimum of 40% for Reserved candidates and 50% for Unreserved candidates. Must be

17 years as of 31st December and not lesser.

The main question is WHY NEET? WHY NOT JEE?

2. Increase in the number of attempts in Jee advanced from two consecutive

years to three consecutive years same as Jee mains (the Jee mains conducting

in three consecutive years).

Q5. If someone doesn't qualify for JEE advanced for two years, will it be

considered two attempts

Whether you qualify for the JEE advance exam or not, it will be

counted as your attempts. According to the rules, every candidate is allowed to take JEE

advance exam for consecutive two times and JEE mains for 3 consecutive times from the year of

passing the class 12. So, if you have not qualified for the exam, nevertheless, it will still be

counted as attempts.

I want to suggest regarding the pattern of engineering entrance

exam.

• If JEE MAINS is the gateway for JEE ADVANCED, then why does a candidate

get three attempts for JEE Mains and only two attempts for JEE Advanced? The
[Last Name] 4

number of attempts for both exams must be equal. Thus, the number of

attempts for JEE Advanced must be increased to three.

• If a student does not appear/could not qualify JEE Mains in his first attempt

(class 12th) then why his attempt for JEE Advanced, the next year is

considered second even if he didn't appear for it the previous year. This year

should be counted as his first attempt at JEE Advanced and if he also qualifies

JEE MAINS in his third attempt he should be provided with one more attempt for

JEE ADVANCED considering it to be his second attempt at it.

• Currently a student is allowed to appear only twice for JEE Advanced but for

medical entrance exams like AIIMS there is no limit on number of attempts

only age limit is specified, for AIPMT too there is no limit on number of

attempts. Why is there such a huge difference in the number of attempts in

prestigious medical entrance exams and engineering entrance exams?

Therefore, the number of attempts for JEE Advanced should also be

increased to give students who could not enroll for regular coaching a fair

chance to crack the exam. Due to limited attempts, students and parents

don't dare to take risks and enroll their children in coaching institutes from

early classes (class 5 or 6). Why is there such hype of JEE? In one case,

medical aspirant get unlimited attempts (Fact - In AIPMT there is no limit on

number of attempts and in AIIMS one can give it from age range of 17 to 22
[Last Name] 5

years) and on other hand a JEE aspirant get only 2 attempts for advanced

and that also not purely as mentioned in 'point no. 2'. Due to these rules

coaching institutes are flourishing and are grabbing huge amounts of

money from students. Every year thousands of students pursue coaching;

they pay huge fees for admission and hostel. But due to cutthroat competition

only a few of them make into IIT as a result suicide rate among JEE aspirants is

on peak.

• The present system of JEE creates undue pressure on students .Especially

rural and poor students are more sufferer since they generally start their

preparation after class 12 and are left with only one attempt for JEE

ADVANCED .Same issue was also raised by founder of Super 30 Mr. Anand

Kumar .I feel the level of exam and competition is very high, not everyone

can afford coaching, thus by increasing the number of attempts the

influence of flourishing coaching institutes can be curbed and a fair chance

can be given to everyone .

• YOUR SUPPORT WILL MAKE GOVERNMENT THINK FOR MAKING THREE

ATTEMPTS AT JEE MAINS AND THREE ATTEMPTS FOR JEE ADVANCED

ALSO.

Q6. How did IIT-JEE CELL make this biggest mistake in deciding criteria for number of

attempts is 2 for JEE ADVANCE and 3 attempts for JEE MAINS? Is it logically, correct?

Sir AIIMS has no limit for number of attempts,

NEET also has 9 attempts,

IAS EXAM has 6 attempts till 32ys

CAT EXAM has no restriction on number of attempts, then why IIT JEE ADVANCE has

only 2 attempts is this criterion is not directly promoting coaching industry and situation

to increase suicide attempts?

Most importantly the number of students who dropped out from IIT’s in the last

two years is 2461, it is due to academic performance and other issues. In 2 attempts

eligibility criteria for JEE ADVANCE increases selection of coaching going students who do

not develop their aptitude skills they are just using coaching tricks and strategies to crack

JEE. What to do for those who prepare with self-studies for taking admission into IIT's, is

this correct method to decide merits, intelligence and aptitude for students? Is this not a

subject to rethink and decide IIT- JEE ADVANCE Attempt criteria. This also decreases the

quality of premier institutes like IIT. IIT’s Global ranking is decreasing continuously. Then

What is the logic behind the upper age limit is 25 for JEE ADVANCE?

And another main point is JEE mains is the qualifying

exam for JEE advanced. But JEE mains has SIX attempts in three consecutive

years (yearly twice) and JEE advanced have only two attempts in consecutive
[Last Name] 7

years (yearly once). What’s the reason behind this? Can you please explain

this issue?

And once again repeating “NEET HAS UNLIMITED ATTEMPTS”.

But “JEE ADVANCED HAS ONLY TWO ATTEMPTS WITH INTHE TWO

CONSECUTIVE YEARS”.

The main question is WHY NEET? WHY NOT JEE?

3. The NTA must release information bulletin before the year of examination

in the months of May, June, July.

The main request to NTA publish the information bulletin before July for 2024

JEE EXAMINATION. By this the aspirants plan on taking dropout for further years. By

this many aspirants lose their money on coaching due to lack of information and lose

their years.

Every Coaching starts new batches in the months May, June and July. You can go with

many Coaching institutes like AKASH, ALLEN, NUCLEUS And RESONANCE etc.
