30 October- Union Government on 30 October 2014 announced to amend the Lokpal
and Lokayuktas Act, 2013 and to include the Leader of Opposition.
30 October- Supreme Court of India said that a minority government can be formed in
Delhi with outside support of a political outfit.
30 October- Union Government announced compensation of 5 lakh rupees for kin of
3325 people who were killed during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
29 October- Union Government submitted a list of 627 Indians holding black money
abroad in a sealed cover.
28 October- Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs on 28 October 2014 launched Vanbandhu
Kalyan Yojana (VKY) for welfare of Tribal people. The scheme was launched on pilot
basis in one block each of the States of Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal
Pradesh, Telangana, Orissa, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and
Gujarat.
28 October- Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on 28 October 2014
announced TB-Mission 2020 to eliminate Tuberculosis (TB) from India. The
announcement was made at WHO's Global TB Symposium titled Moving out of the box
to end global TB epidemic: with post-2015 strategy while addressing the 45th Union
World Conference on Lung Health at Barcelona.
28 October- Supreme Court on 28 October 2014 rapped the Union Government and
Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Najeeb Jung over delay in Delhi Government formation.
27 October- The Union Government on 27 October 2014 disclosed names of black
money account holders in an affidavit to Supreme Court. The affidavit was filed after the
union government was attacked by political rivals that it was cautious of revealing
names.
25 October- Union Defence Ministry on 25 October 2014 cleared the deal worth 8000
crore rupees to buy anti tank missiles from Israel.
24 October- Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) on 24 October 2014 announced
that donations to the Swach Bharat Kosh and the Clean Ganga Fund are now part of
corporate social responsibility (CSR) spends by India Inc.
21 October- Union government de-regulated the price of diesel and hiked in
domestically produced natural gas. This is the first reduction in diesel rates from 2009.
The diesel price was reduced by 2 rupees a litre to 30.86 rupees in January 2009.After
the deregulation of diesel, the rates of diesel will bring down rates by 3.37 rupees per
litre.
20 October- The union cabinet approved an inter-governmental Memorandum of
Understanding with Iran to upgrade the Chabahar port Phase-I.
19 October- Union Government on 19 October 2014 decided to re-launch the modified
Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme in an effective manner. The implementation of
DBT will be made on a mission mode between 10 November 2014 and 1 January 2015 in
54 districts.
19 October- The Union Government on 19 October 2014 started a three-day training
programme for Ebola caregivers in Delhi.
18 October- Union Government on 18 October 2014 launched Jammu Kashmir Arogya
Gram Yojna in Jammu and Kashmir. The scheme aims to encourage farmers in J&K to
cultivate scientifically tested and commercially beneficial aromatic and medicinal plants
in the state.
18 October- The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 18
October 2014 approved the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase-1.
17 October- Union Home Ministry on 17 October 2014 drafted a new counter-Naxal
dOctoberrine. In the drafted law, the ministry clearly demarcated the role of the state
police and central paramilitary forces (CPMFs) in anti-Maoist operations.
16 October- Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) under the Union Ministry of
Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions on 16 October 2014 amended the selection
procedure for the post of Chief of Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).

31 October- Seven Indian sailors who were held in captivity by the Somali pirates off the
coast of Somalia for four years were released in Harardhere.
31 October- President of Burkina Faso Blaise Compaore on 31 October 2014 announced
to resign following violent protests over his attempt to extend his 27-year rule.
30 October- China in October 2014 overtook the US to become the worlds largest
economy in Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) terms.
30 October- Deeper integration for peace and prosperity was chosen as the theme for
the upcoming 18th SAARC Summit to be held in Kathmandu on 30 October 2014.
30 October- India voted against the provisions of UN draft resolution asking all those
countries that have not joined the NPT to accede to it as non-nuclear weapon states.

28 October- World Economic Forum (WEF) on 28 October 2014 released the Global
Gender Gap Report 2014. The 2014 report provides Gender Gap scores for 142
countries compared to 136 countries included in 2013 report.
In the Report, India with a score of 0.646 has been ranked 114. In 2013, India was
ranked 101 out of 136 countries.
28 October- India and Vietnam on 28 October 2014 signed seven Memoranda of
Understandings (MoUs) in New Delhi. The MoUs were signed during the visit of
Vietnamese PM Nguyen Tan Dung in India.
28 October- India on 28 October 2014 announced to modernise defence forces of
Vietnam. During the visit of the Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, Prime
Minister of India Narendra Modi gave a commitment to modernise Vietnams defence
and security forces.
26 October- Brazilian incumbent President Dilma Rousseff was re-elected for her second
four-year term on 26 October 2014. She belongs to the center-left Workers Party and
her second term will finish in December 2018.
26 October- A former mushroom and poultry farmer Leah Kalanguka was crowned as
Miss Uganda 2014 on 26 October 2014. Leah Kalanguka topped the contest by beating
19 other finalists after the competition that was designed to promote agriculture in the
east African nation.
23 October- India along with 20 other countries on 23 October 2014 signed an
agreement to become the founding member of the China-backed Asian Infrastructure
Investment Bank (AIIB).
21 October- India and Nepal on 21 October 2014 signed a Power Trade Agreement (PTA)
that allows exchange of electricity between the two countries. The agreement opened
up new vistas of cooperation between India and Nepal in power sector.
21 October- India on 21 October 2014 was re-elected to the United Nations Human
Rights Council (UNHRC) for the period of 2015 to 2017. India was re-elected after it
received the highest, 162 votes in the Asia Pacific group in the election that was held in
the UN General Assembly in New York.
20 October- India and China have agreed to step up engagements between their
militaries by setting up hotlines between the Army headquarters. The two sides have
also agreed to establish new border meeting posts to address incidents of incursions like
the one in Ladakh area that occurred in September 2014.
20 October- The World Health Organisation (WHO) on 20 October 2014 declared Nigeria
as Ebola free country. It was declared Ebola free after no new cases were reported
within the 42 day period stipulated by the WHO for a country to be declared Ebola free.
The last reported case in Nigeria was confirmed on 8 September 2014.
20 October- Joko Widodo on 20 October 2014 was sworn in as seventh president of
Indonesia.
20 October- Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan Yuko Obuchi on 20
October 2014 resigned from her position.
19 October- Parliament of Australia on 19 October 2014 lifted ban on facial coverings
including burqas and niqabs in Public areas.
19 October- UNSC urged the international community to step up their support for the
Iraqi government in intensifying their battle against ISIS fighters.
18 October- Egypt on 18 October 2014 signed contracts with six international firms to
carry out dredging of the new Suez Canal.
17 October- Nigeria on 17 October 2014 sealed a deal with the militant group Boko
Haram to free the girls.
The Chief of Defence Staff of Nigeria Alex Badeh announced the truce. However, Boko
Haram has not made any public statement.

15 October- India and United Kingdom (UK) signed a Memorandum of Understanding
(MoU) on Culture Cooperation over next five years on 15 October 2014. The MoU was
signed by the Minister of State for Culture Shripad Naik and Sajid Javed, Secretary,
Department of Culture, Media and Sport of United Kingdom.
14 October- India and Norway on 14 October 2014 signed 13 agreements to promote
bilateral relations. These include agreement between Defence sector of two countries
and an agreement on exemption of visa requirement for holders of diplomatic and
official passports.
12 October- India on 12 October 2014 pledged 4 million US dollar aid for reconstruction
of Gaza Strip that was destroyed during the Palestine and Israel conflict which started in
June 2014. The decision was announced by Sandeep Kumar, Joint Secretary of West Asia
and North Africa, Ministry of External Affairs of India.
11 October- India and the UK government launched UK-India Financial Partnership to
strengthen Links Between the Financial Services Industries.
10 October- ATSB released Flight Path Analysis Update on lost Malaysian plane MH370
revealing that it spiralled into Southern Indian Ocean after its fuel ran out.
9 October- World Bank (WB) group on 9 October 2014 launched Global Infrastructure
Facility (GIF) in partnership with private institutional investors.
9 October- An Italian court in Busto Arsizio on 9 October 2014 acquitted Giuseppe Orsi
and Bruno Spagnolini of corruption charges in the 3600 crore rupees VVIP chopper deal
with India.
8 October- China on 8 October 2014 announced that it will launch a new constellation of
marine surveillance satellites by 2019. The satellites will monitor ships, oil rigs and
marine disasters. It aimed to amidst a string of raging maritime disputes with its
neighbours.
6 October- World Bank on 6 October 2014 released South Asia Economic Focus report.
According to the report, the regions economy will expand by 6 percent in 2015 and by
6.4 percent in 2016 as compared to 5.4 percent in 2014, potentially making it the
second fastest growing region in the world after East Asia and the Pacific.
6 October- The Mauritian parliament was dissolved on 6 October 2014 to pave the way
for elections that could lead to changes in the country's constitution. The parliament
was dissolved as the ruling Labour party wants to split powers between the president
(now a largely ceremonial position) and the Prime Minister and this split requires certain
changes in the Constitution.
6 October- Britain and Ireland on 6 October 2014 inked a Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) on new joint Visa cooperation. The agreement was signed at the
Irish Embassy in London by UK home secretary Theresa May and Irish Justice Minister
Frances Fitzgerald.
3 October- Pakistan recorded the highest number of polio cases in 14 years. This was
revealed by the data of polio cases released by the National Institute of Health of
Pakistan on 3 October 2014.

Khanna was released on 15 October 2014.
14 October- Final Test: Exit Sachin Tendulkar authored by Dilip DSouza was released.

that Pakistani spy agency ISI have close ties with terror groups.

13-14 October- President Pranab Mukherjee visited Norway. He became the first Indian
head of state to visit Norway and first president to cross the Arctic Circle. He was invited
for a ceremonial reception at the Royal Palace in Oslo and held talks with King Harald V.
During his visit, he held meeting with top Norwegian political leaders and signed 13
agreements to reaffirm India's long-standing friendly ties with Norway.
8 October- Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of social site Facebook arrived in New Delhi
