sitatis Babes-Bolyai Series Geologia-Geographia Oolitic limonite and glauconite beds occur in middle Eocene deposits west of Clu j, Romania. Intense post-Danian volcanic activity in the area resulted in the fo rmation of dikes, flows, and accumulations of cinders and pyroclastics. Alterati on of these volcanic products under subaerial or marine conditions produced new minerals among which are the iron hydroxides and hydrous iron silicates of the i ron ores. The andesite and its pyroclastic products contributed to the formation of the streaked clays here referred to as the tuffaceous striated horizon.
