TEMPORAL GENETIC CHANGES OF AEDES AEGYPTI L.

(DIPTERA: CULICIDAE) DENGUE MOSQUITO POPULATION IN
SELECTED SITES IN CEBU CITY, PHILIPPINES
I have learned a lot during the symposium even though I only got to
listen to some parts of it. It was surprising to know that mosquitoes have
developed a resistance against insecticides and larvicides. It had me thinking
that animals really adapt to survive. I immediately agreed on this because it is
very evident as to their increasing population despite newly developed
products. Another thing that I would like to point out is that it is very
impressing how studies are conducted to help solve the problems regarding
the widespread domination of dengue-carrying mosquitoes. I admit that I did
not understand some of the terms and processes discussed but all I know is
that those processes were used to analyse the genetic design of the
mosquitoes. Based on the results of the studies, there was only little
differentiation in the Aedes Aegypti in Basak San Nicolas and Poblacion Pardo
and was lesser when compared to other studies conducted in Thailand, Tahiti
and Saudi Arabia. It brought great impact to me the importance of the basic
knowledge about eliminating the breeding places of mosquitoes. To prevent
the increase of dengue cases, it was greatly stressed that the best way is to
really minimize their growth. Finally, I am thankful to have attended the
symposium because it gave me a different perspective on how studies are
conducted and on how necessary studies really are for they give answers to
questions about the problems in our society, especially on our health.
