Dear Parents,
Happy New Year! Welcome Back! I hope you all had a wonderful and restful break. We are coming
back to school hitting the ground running. We will be reviewing many of the concepts covered before
the break this week. Please pay attention to the important dates this month. Grade 2 will be holding our
own Fine Arts Gala and we will be sending home invitations for you to enjoy your childs art soon.
Literacy

Write Narratives

Review the structure of a narrative story

Home Connection: Please have your child pick their favorite fairy tale to read to you and then tell you the lesson
that is learned. They can also identify the characters, setting, and the problem . Please ask your child the following
questions: Why is there a problem? What is happening in the story? What is the most exciting part and how do you
know?

Math

Shapes (angles, sides, edges, vertices)

Add and Subtract to 1000

Home Connection: Please ask your child to identify shapes around their environment and to tell you
if they are 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional. Then have them try to draw it and identify the number of
sides, edges, angles and vertices.
