Winter Concert Review
The winter concert that I had attended was the concert held at Leesville Road High
School on Friday, December 12. There were two showings, one at 4:30 p.m. and another at 7:30
p.m. I had seen the 4:30 showing. The groups that sung that night were the following: combined
mens voices, beginning chorus, intermediate chorale, combined womens voices, capital pride,
and combined choirs.
Women in the beginning chorus wore green dresses and intermediate wore purple. The
men in the beginning chorus wore suits and black bowties without the jacket and the
intermediate wore suits with the jacket and black bowties. The capital pride consisted of both the
intermediate men and womens chorale. The combined mens voices consisted of both the
beginning and intermediate men. The combined womens voices consisted of both the beginning
and intermediate women. The combined choirs consisted of all the groups which, may I say,
were a lot of singers. Majority of the singers did not look at all happy and excited to be up on
stage performing and singing. Other than that, all the singers seemed like they practiced and put
a lot of hard work and effort into their performance.
Some aspects of the concert that I liked were that they had added a small monologue
before or after each song in order to explain the meaning and inspiration behind it. There were
beautiful high notes in, Prayer of the Children. I enjoyed Loren Waits solo in, Where are
You Christmas, considering she had the most beautiful chest voice and I also found the, Dance

of the Sugar-Plum Fairy, to be extraordinary since it was sung without words but still portrayed
the beat of the song.
Some aspects of the concert that I did not like were that the women wore colorful dresses,
some wore heels, and some of their dresses were too short since they did not touch the floor. I
believe that if one woman were to wear heels, then all of the women should do the same and
black dresses are more uniform and look better on stage then purple and green. Also, every dress
was a different length which made it seem unorderly and not professional. I also did not like how
many of the singers were not smiling and there were a few sharp notes sung during, Vox
Populi.
There were many different parts being sung at the same time. The parts were very distinct
in, Nika Banja, and, Behold Man. There were many strong voices in each part during,
Prayer of the Children, and the singers were great at keeping up with their parts and not losing
their place in, Wipip. Finally, they sung perfectly together in, The World for Christmas, and
sung beautiful parts in, The First Noel, and, Hallelujah Chorus from Messiah. They sung
with beautiful vowels and consonants during, Nika Banja, and, The First Noel. The T
sound was strong and distinct during, Where are You Christmas. Finally, there were gorgeous
vowels during, Tykus Tykus, and, Vox Populi.
Overall, even though there were some aspects that I did not like, I still enjoyed watching
these singers perform since I know what it is like to practice and work nonstop in order to put on
a good show. I could see that those singers put an enormous amount of hard work and effort just
to give the audience a wonderful surprise. I would definitely go see one of their concerts again in
the future and spread the word to my friends/family so they too can have a beautiful experience
in observing their hard work and talent. That concert is a concert that I will never forget.
