your responses in word processor, and then upload your responses to the appropriate location on
Socrative:
a. Analyze the testimony given at Tom Robinsons trial. For each witness (Heck Tate, Bob
Ewell, Mayella Ewell, Tom Robinson), discuss the following elements: Pathos, Logos, Ethos.
b. Develop a Claim, Data, Warrant for one of the 4 witnesses.
c. Analyze the testimony of Bob Ewell, Mayella Ewell, and Tom Robinson. Develop a SPES in

an appeal. Finally, synthesize your position with fresh new insights or perspectives.
A. Heck Tate

Mayella bruised and beaten, and she told him that Tom Robinson had raped her.
Ethos: He is the sheriff of Maycomb and a trusted man.

the right side of her face.

in the window and saw Tom Robinson raping his daughter.

nickel to break up a dresser for her, and that once he got inside he grabbed her and took
advantage of her.
Tom Robinson
Pathos: Tom is not allowed to feel bad for whites but he does in this case and his boss stands and
makes a statement about it.
Ethos: The black field hand accused of rape.
Logos: Tom recalls that Mayella asked him to come inside the house and fix a door and when he
came inside, there was nothing wrong with the door, and he noticed that the other children were
gone. Mayella told him she had saved her money and sent them all to buy ice cream. Then she
asked him to lift a box down from a dresser. When Tom climbed on a chair, she grabbed his legs,
scaring him so much that he jumped down. She then hugged him around the waist and asked him
to kiss her. As she struggled, her father appeared at the window, calling Mayella a whore and
threatening to kill her and Tom had left the scene.
