Project name: The Strines

Outline of idea:
Mat Blake
Georgia Harper
Kristina Will
Kerys Andi
Katy Alexis
Blake and Harper are together, Andi and Alexis are Harpers best friend and Blake
is in the friendship group due to being with Harper. In the beginning of the trailer
we see Harper asking Blake if its okay that her ex Will comes to stay. Blake
doesnt think much of this and reluctantly agrees despite the fact that he doesnt
know anything about Will or their pre-existing relationship. Wills identity is left
ambiguous while Blake asks Andi and Alexis, two of Harpers best friends about
Will and Harpers relationship. Andi and Alexis see Blakes confusion as an
opportunity to mess with his head seeing as though they dont really like him, and
would prefer him to be out of the picture. Throughout the trailer Harper and Will
are seen getting closer and closer and this drives Blake into an even higher state
of confusion. Harper ultimately realises that Blake hasnt been acting himself and
goes to Will for advice and guidance. Will doesnt look as though she cares very
much about Blakes situation and more so about getting Harper back. Harper
confronts Blake asking him whats the matter and the two engage in a heated
argument that leads Harper to question where her loyalties lie. Blakes anger
ultimately reaches breaking point and he is seen at the end of the trailer burning a
picture of Harper and Will together.

Narratives:
Scene 1 (set in a coffee shop)
Harper: Omg!
Blake: Whats up?
Harper: Ive got something to ask you.
Blake: Ok
Harper: My ex Will is coming to stay, dont worry were just friends and
everything. Is that ok with you?
Blake: Yeah thats cool. I trust you.
Scene 2 (Blake, Andi and Alexis chat about Will and Harpers relationship)
Blake: So what do you guys know about Will and Harper.
Andi: They were really close werent they.
Alexis: Yeah I think they still are
Scene 3 (Will and Harper sat on a park bench while Harper confides in Will)
Harper: I dont know whats up with Blake recently, hes been acting really
strange.
Will: (rolls eyes)
Scene 4 (Blake and Harper walking in the park)
Harper: What is wrong with you?
Blake: You and Will is whats wrong with me.
Harper: Oh for god sake youre just paranoid.
Blake: (grabs Harpers arm) Cant you see the way that she looks at you?

Character Profiles:
Harper
Harper is the main object of desire throughout the trailer and she confuses Blake
almost without realising what shes doing. Harper comes across as polite and
well-mannered as well as being pretty and dressing desirably. Her character
makes the audience question whether she is clueless about Will still being in love
with her or if her character has a dark undertone and she knew all along.
Blake
Blake is typically quite a nave teenage character, his and Harpers relationship is
seemingly very strong until Will comes into the frame of things. Hes quite relaxed
originally and doesnt mind Will coming to stay but the closeness of Harper and
Will becomes too much for Blake to take.
Will
Wills character is left ambiguous until the middle of the trailer where her identity
is revealed. It would be really easy to assume that Will is a boy until you actually
see her face and it almost seems worse for Blake that she is a girl because it
means she has a closer relationship and bond with Harper because they act like
best friends and its hard for him to distinguish whether theres anything else
going on.
Andi and Alexis
Andi and Alexis are Harpers best friends and they are quite sly and spiteful
characters. They both dress incredibly similar as though they mimic each other
and they love to spread gossip and rumours and would fit quite well into a show
like made in Chelsea or the only way is Essex.

Target Audience
The target audience for the Strines is young adults who are 16+ years of age
mainly due to the fact that the themes of the show relate to the issues that these
types of people have to deal with, with the characters all being around the same
age. The show will feature quite mature themes such as sexuality, infidelity,
violence, drugs and alcohol. Furthermore the show fits well on E4 as they
broadcast the same type of shows such as Glue, Skins and Misfits.

Reasons as to why the idea will work (broadcast time, demand for
style of show, mass/niche appeal)
I feel as though the storyline of the show is a really interesting one in terms of
sexuality and the dark side of relationships and the way in which they can turn
sour. Also weve tried to use interesting and ambiguous characters that make the
audience wonder and ones in which many different types of people can relate to
so there is something for everyone. The time of the shows broadcast will be 10pm
so it suits the themes and any violent, sexual or deviant behaviour that may be
broadcast on the show.

Locations, permissions and resources:

Funky monkey coffee company,
Davenport park,
The ridge (Marple)
