My name is Kaitlyn

McMillan and I am from St. Clair

College. I am in the Concurrent ECE
Program. I have been in your childs
class for the last three weeks. I just
wanted to thank you for the chance to
work with your children. I have enjoyed
my time here and have learnt a lot from
your children and Mrs. Mayea and Mrs.
Clark. Here are some of the things we
have done in the past three weeks.

Our first activity was print making. The children made

prints from their paintings. They placed a piece of paper on top of
their painting and peeled it off to create their print. Although,
many children were interested in mixing paint to see what new
colours they can make. They mixed, white, red, blue, and yellow
paint, as they explored the new colours they created. We
expanded on mixing colours in our second activity of mixing
colours in ice trays.

Learning Area: Visual Arts

Overall Expectation: V2: Demonstrate basic knowledge and skills
gained through exposure to visual arts and activities in visual arts
Specific Expectation: V2.1: Explore a variety of tools, materials, and
processes of their own choice to create visual art forms in familiar and
new ways (eg. Use natural and recycled materials at a learning centre.)
During small group time, Mackenzie (ch) smeared red
paint in a circular motion on her page with the sponge.
She then placed the red sponge back and picked up the
paint brush in the white paint. Mackenzie (ch) started to
paint over top of the red paint in a circular motion. She
then said, I made pink. Ms. McMillan (st) looked over
at Mackenzies (ch) paper and said, you did make pink.

Learning Area: Science and Technology
Overall Expectation: 2: Conduct simple investigation
through free exploration, focused exploration, and guided
activity, using inquiry skills (questioning, planning,
predicting, observing, communicating)
Specific Expectation: 2.3 Select and use materials to
carry out their own explorations

During small group time, Jeremiah (ch) said, now I am going

to mix yellow and blue. He reached for the sponge in the blue
paint and smeared some on his page. Jeremiah (ch) then took
the sponge in the yellow paint and smeared it on top of the blue
and said, I made green with yellow and blue. (11/26/2013)

Overall Expectation: 2. Conduct simple investigations
through free exploration, focused exploration, and guided
activity, using inquiry skills (questioning, planning, predicting,
observing, communicating)
Specific Expectation: 2.1 State problems and pose questions
before and during investigations

Our second activity was mixing colours in ice trays. The children were
given ice trays filled with water and red, blue, and yellow food
colouring. The children mixed the food colouring
in the ice trays to create new colours.

Overall Expectation: 2. Conduct simple
investigations through free exploration, focused
exploration, and guided activity, using inquiry skills
(questioning, planning, predicting, observing,
communicating)
Specific Expectation: 2.1 State problems and pose
questions before and during investigations
Edward (ch) said, it made green! as he stirred the colour with a
toothbrush. Ms. McMillan (st) said, how did you make green?
Edward (ch) replied, with blue and yellow, as he pointed to the
blue and yellow food colouring. (during small group at the table,

Overall Expectation: 2: Conduct simple investigation through
free exploration, focused exploration, and guided activity, using
inquiry skills (questioning, planning, predicting, observing,

communicating)
Specific Expectation: 2.4 Communicate results and findings
from individual and group investigations

Jeremiah (ch) put a drop of blue food

colouring and then a drop of yellow and
watched as the colour changed to green.

Our third
activity involved red, blue, and
yellow baking soda and red, blue, and
yellow vinegar. The children had a
chance to mix the baking soda and
vinegar and make colour explosions.

investigation through free exploration,

focused exploration, and guided activity,
using inquiry skills (questioning, planning,
predicting, observing, communicating)
Specific Expectation: 2.3 Select and use
materials to carry out their own exploration

During small group time at the table, Ms.

McMillan (st) asked Henri (ch), what colour did
you make? Henri (ch) responded, orange, as
he stirred the vinegar and baking soda.

During small group time at the table, Ms.

McMillan (st) asked Jasmen (ch), what colour
did you make, Jasmen? Jasmen (ch) replied,
green, it is almost exploding. Jasmen (ch)
continued to add more baking soda and vinegar
to her cup until in over flowed into the large
container. (12/06/2013)

observations before and during investigations
