Comparative Visual Analysis

Part 1
Assignment: Choose two advertisements, either two from the same product/company from at least 10 years
apart, or two from the same product offered by different companies. I encourage the use of images that
incorporate text helps provide numerous possibilities for analysis. Focus on identification of rhetorical
appeals in images and directly referencing, summarizing, and comparing these appeals across different
contexts. (6-7 pages)
Part 2
Assignment: Based on the advertisement you chose in part 1, create an advertisement of your own. This
should be for the same company or product you have analyzed for your paper. Then, write a reflection on the
choices you made in your advertisement. (1 page)

Guidelines:
Times New Roman 12 point font, 1 inch margins
7-8 pages in length
No spaces between paragraphs
Invention Portfolio:
Again, please do not throw away any of the work that you do in this course. Please turn all of the work
that you have completed so far in this course with your paper in an Invention Portfolio.
Grade Breakdown:
Project 3 40%
o Paper 28%
o Invention Portfolio 8%
o Participation 4%
As always, you will receive 2pts extra credit (applied to the overall percentage grade for your paper) by going
to the Writing Center. Make sure to get a form from your consultant to prove that you went.
