Popescu Gopos first Eastmancolor movie is truly a beautiful spectacle, also available on DVD (from
which the screen-captures below are taken). The film stars heartthrob Florin Piersic (a kind of
Romanian Tab Hunter, all the more so with his hair dyed blond here) as the bumbling son of a
medieval king who wants to find favor as a warrior. An act of kindness to an old hag helps him on his
way, since she turns out to be a good witch in disguise, and thereafter he battles his way through
landscapes and peoples who frequently look to be pre-empting THE ROAD WARRIOR, also in terms of
their costuming.
The gorgeous-looking widescreen DVD (in unsubtitled Romanian, but its easy enough to follow) is
almost always available on eBay through sellers based in Romania.
