Notes on the verbs Ir and Estar

Lets start with the verb Ir. The verb is most commonly used to say where
someone is going. This verb is IRREGULAR like the verbs Ser and Tener that you
also know.

The verb Ir is usually followed by the preposition a (or the contraction al= a +
el) and a destination.
See the following example:
Por qu no vamos a la biblioteca?
Voy al cine.

Why dont we go to the library?

I am going to the movies.

When you want to suggest going somewhere or doing something (Lets go

somewhere/do something!) use Vamos a (+ a place or an infinitive of a verb).
Vamos a la ciudad hoy!
Vamos a tomar el autobs!

Lets go into town today!

Lets take the bus!

Now lets move on to the verb ESTAR

There is a little rhyme to remember the common uses of this verb: how you feel
and where you are always use the verb ESTAR. This is because the verb ESTAR is
used to talk about location or how someone feels. It also means to be and is
an IRREGULAR verb in Spanish. However, you have already seen many forms in
expressions such as Cmo ests? Cmo est? Dnde est?
