The topic of my project is, St. Thomas More: resisting King Henry VIII. Before choosing
this topic, I did some research on it and found out it involved history on religion and law; two
categories in which I am very interested. I was very interested in the topic I chose because this is
a new topic for me, so it allowed me to learn about something others may not know, and teach
them about it. Doing research on my topic helped me learn more about my topic and build a
greater interest in it, which also helped me continue with this topic for my project.
I used both school databases and public websites to conduct my research, but found that
the databases helped the most. The databases that I used are ABC-Clio and Grolier. Both ABCClio and Grolier provided me with information on where and when St. Thomas More was born,
when he died, his education, etc. The plethora of information that the databases provided aided
me in creating an organized and detailed project.
My presentation is in the form of a website. I chose to do a website because I have never
created one before and given the opportunity, I thought I may as well try it out. At first, I wasnt
so sure that I had made the right choice of making a website, but after organizing my information
into the correct pages on my website, I saw it coming together. I have seven pages on my
website: Home, About, Events, Legacy, and a more page which contains a two minute video on
the conflict between Sir Thomas More and King Henry VIII. I also have a page that contains my
annotated bibliographies and a page that contains the citations of the sources I used on my
website.
The theme of this years National History Day project is leadership. A leader is someone
who sets an example for their peers and encourages them to do great things with their lives, great
things to influence the nation. I believe Sir Thomas More was a leader because of his

commitment to his faith and how he defended the Catholic Church when it was under attack.
Thomas More should have received the title, Defender of the Faith, not the King, because he
stuck up for the church when the King betrayed it, even if it cost him his life. Thomas More was
a true leader to his country and he deserves that recognition.
