Electrical Resistivity Test

PCTS carry out Electrical Resistivity Testing using the Proceq Resipod to
assess the quality / uniformity of concrete at various depths.

Introduction

CTS Electrical Resistivity Testing Using Proceq Resipod

Electrical current is passed

through the outer probes and
potential drop is measured by
the inner probes. From the
current and voltage drop
measurements, the resistivity of
the concrete is measured. CTS
are able to relate this resistivity
to the quality of the concrete.

Application

Example Test Certificate

Quality / Strength.
Comparative assessment of
moisture conditions.
To assist the integrity testing
of reinforced piles.
To assess or monitor the
durability of concrete exposed
to severe environments.

Half Cell Potential Measurement

CTS measure the potential of an embedded reinforcing bar relative to a reference
half-cell placed on the concrete surface. The concrete functions as an electrolyte
and the risk of corrosion of the reinforcement in the immediate region of the test
location is related empirically to the measued potential difference.

Introduction

CTS Half Cell Potential Testing Using Proceqs Canin

CTS technicians are available to

measure monitor and map concrete
reinforcements potential for corrosion.

This test can give the probability of

corrosion activity taking place at the
point where the measurements of
potentials are taken from a half-cell,
(typically a copper-copper sulphate
half-cell).

Application

Example Potential Map

CTS Technicians are available to:

Produce isopotential contour maps.

Identify corrosion risk.

Monitor expected corrosion.

Impulse Response
CTS IR certification, a method of non-destructive evaluation of concrete based on
the use of impact-generated stress (sound) waves that propagate through the
structure and are reflected by internal flaws and external surfaces.

Impulse Response Mobility Testing Using SMash

Introduction
CTS use Olsons NDE360 to measure
the mobility value of a structural
member.

The measured load/time of a surface

impact on the test object is related to
the response.

The Impulse Response method is

used

by

CTS

to

indicate

any

significant variation in the structures

response.

Application

Example Test Certificate

CTS Technicians are available to:

Evaluate integrity.

Determine the length of deep

foundations.

Evaluate concrete, wood and

steel piles.

Locate breaks, cracks, defects,

intrusions and bulbs.

Ultrasonic Pulse Echo

CTS Ultrasonic certification. UPE is a method for non-destructive evaluation
of concrete. The output from the MIRA UPE testing equipment is shown on
screen immediately after testing for on-site flaw detection.

Ultrasonic Pulse Echo Testing Using MIRA

Introduction
CTS use MIRA to image a structural
member. Many combinations of data
points are required to map out, and
accurately

reconstruct

an

image

depicting the internal condition of a

concrete

structure.

Data

obtained

using an array of low frequency, short

pulse, dry point contact transducers is
displayed in a 3D tomographic image
through processing of a mathematical
algorithm that uses a 3D synthetic
aperture focusing technique (SAFT).

Ultrasonic Pulse Echo Scans Produced By the MIRA

Application
CTS Technicians are available to:

Locate voids, honeycombing,

hollow conduits, poorly grouted
prestressing ducts, poor quality
construction
bonded

joints,

repairs

&

poorly
cracking

concrete.

Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity

CTS use Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity technology to measure the transit time of a pulse
between transducers placed on the surface of a body of concrete. The pulse velocity
is then calculated using the measured path length through the concrete.
UPV Transducers

Introduction
CTS apply UPV technology as it is
totally non-destructive, quick to use
and reflects the properties of the
interior of a body of concrete. It is
particularly valuable in circumstances
where a considerable number of
readings

are

required

for

the

assessment of uniformity of hardened

concrete.

Transducers for UPV Testing

Application
CTS Technicians are available to:
Determine concrete uniformity.
Detect cracks and honeycombing.
Estimate in-situ strength.
Monitor strength development.
Assess concrete deterioration.

Concrete State Testing

PCTS Monitoring Services.
Introduction
IntelliRock

Temperature

and

Maturity Loggers can measure and

document the temperature profiles
and calculate maturity of concrete.
The measurements are important
for quality construction and also
getting insitu strength readings for
the concrete. The system makes
use of discrete loggers which act
as a sensor and data-logger whilst
being protected in the concrete.
The system is rugged and easy to
use

IntelliRock Wireless is a recent

development from Engius which
allows for remote monitoring of
intelliRock

Loggers.

Working

inside familiar software users can

start loggers, monitor maturity and
temperature on a job site and with
intelliRock LIVE this data can even
be accessed from any computer
and many smartphones
