Listening and speaking are seen as core skills of early literacy. As such, pupils
should be taught about how to listen carefully, to speak from the basic level of
sound, word, phrase and structural sentences in various situational contexts, the
stress, rhythm and intonation patterns and how to use them correctly and to
recognise, understand and use not only verbal but also non-verbal
communication.
Slot 2 - Reading
The teaching of reading skills focuses on basic literacy with the use of phonics
in Years 1 and 2 and begins at the word and phrase levels before progressing to
sentence recognition and reading at the paragraph level. Teacher should
teaches pupils to extract specific information from a text and to respond to a text
with their own ideas and opinions.
Slot 3- WRITING SKILL
Pupils will be taught to express their ideas clearly on paper in legible handwriting
or to communicate via the electronic media. They also must develop their writing
ability beginning at the word and phrase levels and progress to the sentence and
paragraph levels. They must write simple compositions comprising several
paragraphs.
