Our model is showing how the leg functions to kick a ball. As seen, our model has all the
muscles acquired and has the femur, tibia, and fibula bone. Where these bones meet, we used
a door hinge to act as a joint with modeling clay as cartilage. We made our bones by using
wood and our muscles are made up out of surgical tubing.
III. Materials:
1. Surgical tubing (10 ft) (muscles)
2. Exercise bands (2 different colors) (ligaments and tendons)
3. Staple gun
4. Staples (1 box)
5. Circular door hinge (1)
6. Sandpaper (a lot)
7. Modeling Clay (unknown)
8. \
Screws (1 box)
9. Ball (someone will bring it in)
10. Clear packing tape(Leg)
11. PVC pipe (1 inch size) (about 7 feet) (bone)
12. 3 way 1 inch pvc pipe connector
13. Tiny fuzzy red and white POM POM balls (blood cells)
14. Nuts & Bolts, along with washers and spring washers.
15. Wood (2 of 3ft x 2in, 2ft x 2in, 3ft x 3ft plywood) (stand)
IV. Construction Plan:
1. Cut pvc pipe into correct sizes
2. Attach the pvc together with door hinges
3. put the POM POMS in the bone to represent the red and white bloods cells
4. Attach the surgical tubing to the bones with staples from staple gun
5. Attach different bones to a frame that will hold it up
V. Principles used:
Biology: Demonstrates the muscular and skeletal systems. Uses joints in the knee and
foot, muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones, etc.
VI. Special needs: tools that can cut/saw through PVC and wood, wood, PVC(along with
connectors), motors, POM POMS, surgical tubing
VII. Unresolved issues:
None
