If you regularly attend lectures and similar events sponsored by the Honors
College, you've got a great couple of weeks ahead. If you haven't yet developed
the habit, this month would be a great time to start.
On Wednesday, January 28th (6:00pm, 100 Hardin Hall), Dr. Eric Langenbacher
of Georgetown University will speak on the fall of the Berlin Wall, which occurred 25 years ago in November, 1989. The Wall was both a symbol of the
Cold War and the Iron Curtain and also a very real barrier to the free movement of people, goods, and ideas. A quarter century later, Europe has made
extraordinary progress toward unity, but still remains divided politically, culturally, and economically.
The following evening (Thursday, January 29th, 7:00pm, Academic Success Center Room 118), Dr. Jim McCubbin of the Department of Psychology will present
a Thoughts Worth Thinking lecture/discussion on "Stress in Health and Disease." This important topic should be of interest to anyone interested in medicine, public health or a related field--and to everyone (and that probably means
everyone) who has to deal with stress on an occasional or everyday basis.
If you have ideas for the Thoughts Worth Thinking series or suggestions for
lecture topics or speakers, please don't hesitate to share them with me, Katie
Maxwell, the Honors College Student Advisory Board, or any member of the
Honors faculty or staff. We look forward to seeing you next week and throughout the year!
