Pride and Prejudice was written at first under the name of First Impressions between 1796 and 1797. The manuscript was rejected by the editors, and the author started to make a revision which was finished in 1809. In 1813, the book was published and it had a real success. The novel begins with the famous first line: It is a truly acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife even though the author concentrates on the female characters so there is a contradiction from the beginning. The major themes presented in the novel are marriage and social class beside of the other themes represented by love and reputation. On the other hand we find in the novel the theme of the woman status.
