LITERAL TRANSLATIONS
Literal translations will be provided in Lit. annotations. As the name suggestions, they will include
literal translations of words, compounds or phrases. The purpose of these is to assist the reader in
understanding jokes that otherwise would have been lost in translation, whilst minimising
interruption when reading.

TRANSLATION NOTES

TLnote 1:

They use a special term which means 'a man who has only ever had sex with a prostitute'.
No suitable English equivalent was found and amateur virgin will be used henceforth.

TLnote 2:

Nonke-uke (literally straight taker) is a term coined by yaoi fangirls to refer to a man
who starts off straight, but eventually turns gay (and ends up becoming the one on the
receiving end in a homosexual relationship).

TLnote 3:

Secondary education in Japan is split into middle school and high school, which consist
of Years 7-9 and 10-12 respectively. This education structure will be used in the
translation henceforth.

TLnote 4:

She uses the term, maguro-onna, which literally means tuna woman. This is a term used
to describe women who only lie down silently during sex [and let their partner(s) do all
the work].

TLnote 5:

Kata-tataki means shoulder massage. However, it is also a colloquialism which refers to

the act of firing someone from their job. In this context, hes saying that Elina should have
suggested a shoulder massage (or rather, that he get fired) as a better joke.
