REFLECTION

1. Oxidation-Reduction Reactions
Redox reactions, or oxidation-reduction reactions, primarily involve the
transfer of electrons between two chemical species. The compound that loses an
electron is said to be oxidized, the one that gains an electron is said to be reduced.
There are also specific terms that describe the specific chemical species. A
compound that is oxidized is referred to as a reducing agent, while a compound
that is reduced is referred to as the oxidizing agent. These are the concepts I
learned from our discussion. Moreover, beforehand this topic was already tackled
to us during our Summer Camp classes in MariSci,so its just like a review for us.
I remember certain ideas I used to think way back the time of that summer camp
with Mrs. Berador. I dont have a hard time to this topic; instead it was an easy
one to understand. Well, sometimes tricky.
2. Organic Compounds and Hydrocarbons
Organic compounds are the complex compounds of carbon. All living things are
composed of intricate systems of inorganic and organic compounds. For example,
there are many kinds of organic compounds that are found in nature, such as
hydrocarbons. Hydrocarbons are the molecules that are formed when carbon and
hydrogen combine. They are not soluble in water and easily distribute. I learned
that, all things here on earth have different compositions, some may vary,
different from each other, but still create a harmony between each other. And I
knew thats what makes it very unique. Although there are differences, these make
the flow of the ecosystem in a stable state. I enjoyed discussing this topic because
it was interesting and very fun.

3. Alkanes

Hydrocarbons which contain only single bonds are called alkanes. They are called
saturated hydrocarbons because there is a hydrogen in every possible location. This gives
them a general formula CnH2n+2.The first four alkanes are methane, ethane, propane,
and butane. My classmates reported this topic, specifically the group 1. I listened
carefully as the reporters discuss the topic. And I, myself, created techniques that I can
use to answer questions about this one in ease. I also memorized the different alkanes.
The alkanes are highly combustible and are valuable as clean fuels, burning to form water
and carbon dioxide. Methane, ethane, propane and butane are gases and used directly as
fuels.
