SHOOTING SCRIPT

CUT ADAMs FACE

A man in his late 30s, Adam, opens his blue, shocked eyes. Hes
breathing repetitively. He looks around and then closes his eyes
again. Hes sweating a lot.
FADE OUT
EXT PYRAMID MIDNIGHT
Adam is in a dream state. Hes standing on top of a pyramid
looking over the massive dunes under him. He looks to his left
and the glowing Amazon rainforest glistens in the moon. He
blinks and he sees the bright, frozen white of the North Pole.
Adam looks away from the sun glare and looks again. It is black
under him, a mirror image of the stars and galaxies that surround
him. He looks up and sees something lurching at him. The same
pyramid begins to fall upside down onto Adam. He starts
screaming as the pyramid is about to crush him. A bright light
emits from where the pyramid points touch.
CUT TO
INT/EXT ADAMs PURGATORY CELL PURGATORY
Adam wakes up with the sun glaring at him through his window.
gets out of bed and looks out his window. He sees Eve. The
surface has a majestic glow to it.

EXT CITY STREETS
A middle aged Adam is looking at a billboard that says, LIVE
FOREVER IN PURGATORY, LIVE TOGETHER IN EVERLASTING PARADISE.
CUT TO
INT PURGATORY SIGN UP STATION
ADAM is rapidly but attentively filling out the requested forms
for entering the world of Purgatory. Adam only writes his first
name on the first form.

CUT TO

INT/EXT BATHROOM ADAMs HOUSE

ADAM is bent over his sink looking at his face in a small mirror.
His newly found wrinkles are coming through. He sees some grey
hairs starting to form on his head. He shivers.
CUT TO
EXT PURGATORY ENTRANCE
ADAM is in line with one bag of luggage just like the people in
front of him who are much older than he is. When it is ADAMs
turn to enter a man stops him. He looks at ADAM sternly and
reiterates a few points.
GUARD
Welcome to the entrance to
Purgatory. To reiterate, you
are aware that by stepping
upon this voyage you will be
given everlasting life; the
ability to regenerate healthy,
young cells for as long as you
chose to live?
ADAM
I am.
GUARD
And are you aware that you
will never be allowed to step
foot on Eve unless you wish
your body to be buried from
whence you came?
ADAM
I am aware.
GURAD
Listen bud, are you sure you
want to go now?
ADAM
What do you mean?
GURAD
Youre still young.

ADAM
(irritated)
I choose to go.
The GURAD checks his form.
GUARD
(disappointed)
As you wish.
ADAM walks through the gate and looks back at
Eve. Its a waste land.
CUT TO
EXT LARGE GRASS FIELD
1954, A boy is running up a hill and looks over a whole forest.
He closes his eyes and then opens them again. Hes 70 years
older. The woods are deforested and industrialization has taken
over them.
INT/EXT ADAMs ROOM PURGATORY
Two SPECIALISTS are helping ADAM receive his cord of everlasting
life. A cord that acts like an I.V. is put into his back. The
SPECIALISTS leave. ADAM looks at Eve from his window, alone.
EXT CITY SIDE WALK
ADAM, a few months earlier, is looking up at
the sun. PURGATOY eclipses the sun.
INT ADAMs ROOM
ADAM, in bed, closes his eyes.
CUT TO
EXT FIELD
ADAM is looking up at the sun. There is no eclipse. He keeps
scanning the sky but cant find anything. He looks down and sees
grass surrounding his bare feet. He looks around and sees hes
surrounded. He runs and then stops abruptly. He looks down and

sees that hes standing in dirt with paper all over it. Paper
and plastic. He looks up and sees the sky is an orange yellow.
EXT PURGATORY
PURGATORY floats swiftly around a yellow and industrialized
planet, the Eve. It is year 2068. The year changes to 2228.
is green and healthy again.
INT ADAMs ROOM
ADAM is looking out the window again and sees the green Eve.
Hes in love. He wants to go back home.
INT IN AFTER LIFE INC.
ADAM is in a therapists office. Hes talking with a man.
THERAPIST
Todays a big day for you,
right?
ADAM
(sulking)
Its my 194 birthday.
THERAPIST
I havent seen you in a couple
years, anything troubling you?
ADAM
Ive been thinking about some
things.
THERAPIST
Care to elaborate?
ADAM
When I left, 160 years ago, I
lost something.
THERAPIST
Did you leave it on Eve?
ADAM
I lost it when I set foot of
the planet.

Eve

CUT TO
EXT EVE 2068
ADAM steps onto the ramp that brings him on the transport to
PURGATORY. His foot brushes a blade of grass slowly.
CUT TO
INT IN AFTER LIFE INC.
Adam is still talking with the THERAPIST.
THERAPIST
Arent you happy?
(beat)
You live in perfect world.
ADAM
Weve spent our existence
creating perfections. None of
which have ever been perfect.
Perfect isnt a real concept.
Imperfection is reality. It
is nature. Were not supposed
to be away from Eve. I Were
not supposed to be dragged
away from living.
THERAPIST
You know you cant go back.
Its illegal.
INT TRANSPORTATION HANGAR
ADAM is hiding behind a crate preparing to
illegally board a transport back to Eve.
ADAM (O. C.)
I know.
THERAPIST (O. C.)
I suppose youll suggest that
law is imperfect.

ADAM (O. C.)

It cant rule when people
dont listen.
INT/EXT TRANSPORTATION HANGAR SPACE TRANSPORT
The PILOT and ESCORT walk out of the transport and put on their
helmets and coats. ADAM swiftly walks behind them and into the
ship.
INT IN AFTER LIFE INC.
THERAPIST
You would die trying?
CUT TO
INT SPACE TRANSPORT
ADAM is hiding in the shuttle. The ESCORT walks
out and sees him. ADAM wrestles the ESCORT and
ends up shoving him into the side of the ship,
knocking him out.
CUT TO
INT/EXT COCKPIT SPACE TRANSPORT
The PILOT puts the ship on auto-pilot and walks
out of the cockpit. He falls back into the
COCKPIT knocking the back of his head on the
controls. Hes knocked out as well. ADAM, now
looking more aged than previously, sits down at
the PILOTs seat.
ADAM (O. C.)
Id be dying trying to live.
Everlasting life is poison and when
I leave, it will kill me.
THERAPIST (O. C.)
Leave to your beloved Eve.

ADAM, in the PILOTs seat, sees the EVE glowing

through the front cockpit window. He smiles but
then flinches. He scratches at his back and the
cord that had kept him alive is missing
ADAM (O. C.)
You always want to go back to where
you felt natural. At home. At
peace.
(beat)
In wonder.
CUT TO
INT ADAMs ROOM
ADAM, biting his blankets, rips his everlasting
life cord from his back. Hes looking at Eve as
if hes obsessively yearning for it.
THERAPIST (O. C.)
Wonder?
CUT EVE
The natural formations of the planet glisten. Even
the stars shine brighter.
ADAM (O. C.)
Life is wonderful. Its not
perfect. Its not imperfect
either. Its what it can be.
THERAPIST (O. C.)
Why go back now?
The SPACE TRANSPORT zooms past and is heading for SOUTH AMERICA.
CUT TO
INT/EXT EVEs ATMOSTPHERE
The SPACE TRANSPORT starts burning up.
CUT TO

INT COCKPIT
ADAM slams his hand on the emergency landing button.
fly out of the transport but a few are ripped apart.
slams into the canopy underneath.

Parachutes
The shuttle

ADAM
Everything is dark if you fail to
see the loving light.
CUT TO
EXT WOODLANDS/FOREST MOUNTANOUS DAYBREAK
ADAM, old aged, white bearded. Crawls out of the
destroyed shuttle and looks through the trees at
the sun. It blinds him but he still stares. He
breathes deep and salubrious breaths. He stands
with difficulty looking at the mountain range in
front of him. He sits down cross legged and takes
his last look before he smiles and then closes his
eyes. The smile fades and his skin grows pale.
ADAM (O. C.)
Its better wanting to live rather
than being trapped,
(beat)
knowing that youre not alive.
