Centre for Heritage Management

Restoring Heritage: Reclaiming Value
The Centre for Heritage Management (CHM) at Ahmedabad University is
one of its kind in India which specializes in heritage management, a niche
and relevant area. It is established to promote conservation and
management of heritage assets.
The soul of India lies in its ancient culture and heritage. It has a rich
legacy with an astonishingly diverse range of monuments and buildings,
community spaces, arts & crafts, traditional dance & music, folklore,
cuisine, textiles and lifestyles. These precious national assets are of great
value and yet lie in equal neglect today.
It is also the responsibility of every generation to ensure that the ingenuity
and spirit of human skills, art and creativity are not lost to future
generations. Centre for Heritage Management of Ahmedabad University
has taken up the responsibility to become a pioneer in Mission Heritage
through professional management to add value to the community and to
the country.

Vision
Inclusion of heritage in all relevant policies and decisions of the country
and make people aware and vigilant about heritage issues to take initiatives
for protecting and preserving the cultural assets of the nation.

Mission
CHM aims to achieve its vision by offering quality academic and executive
programmes to create motivated professionals; through research,
documentation and publications; by organizing national and international
seminars, conferences and symposia to expand and explore successful
heritage experiences and practices from across the world; offer consultancy
to heritage stakeholders and provide inputs for policy making.

Ahmedabad University
Ahmedabad University, established in July 2009 is promoted by the
Ahmedabad Education Society (AES). The society, established in 1935
with inspiration from Sardar Vallabhai Patel, the first Deputy Prime Minister
of India and visionaries like Sheth Kasturbhai Lalbhai, Shri Amratlal
Hargovandas and Shri G V Mavlankar, the first speaker of the Indian
parliament, upholds values, transparency in governance and pursuit of
quality education.
The University today offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes
that are at par with the international standards of educational excellence.
The University strives to provide professional, contemporary and careeroriented education that is rooted in Indian ethos. Through various courses
and programmes, the University continues to provide Global Education
at local cost, context and ethos.

Ahmedabad Education Society (AES)

For over last 75 years, AES and its promoters have been directly and
indirectly instrumental in pioneering several institutions of higher learning
such as Ahmedabad Textile Industries Research Association (ATIRA),
Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), National Institute of Design (NID),
Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) etc. It has also
promoted the Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology
University (CEPT) focusing on architecture, urban planning and related
faculties. It was one of the first ones to start a commerce college and the
first in India to start a college in pharmacy.
AES has deep roots in the trade and industrial community of the city.
Highly acclaimed industrialists and scientists represent the board of
governors of AES. AES has five board members as representatives on the
AU board. It has given practice orientation to our educational institutions,
provided funding support for creation of infrastructure, imbibed tradition
of values and accountability, and created contacts for various academic
activities interfacing with the larger economy and society. AES has a large
bank of more than 250 acres prime location in Ahmedabad for developing
AU. There are very few urban universities around the world which have
such land resources in the heart of the city for growth and development.
