REASONS/ANALYSIS
Following the attempted murder of Malala Yousufhzhai, senior Taliban
member Adnan Rasheed wrote a letter explaining the reasons

The key pointers from the letter:


Taliban supports the education of girls
Retaliation was due to smearing campaign against Taliban
Taliban considers the Pakistan army as its chief target
Completely opposes Western/English influence supported by the
UN, NATO, US, UK and other superpowers
Fears no space for Islam in the globalized world

MENTALIT Y
Mullah Maulana Fazlullah, man behind the blast in the Peshawar
School, released a video, citing several reasons for the destruction :
The Taliban maintains that the attack was to uncover Pakistan army
bases
Remains at completely war with the Army, blaming them for
torturing the Taliban prisoners and children
Only army personnel and family members were killed, others spared
Prepared to face the UN and US over the same issue
Decide to continue uncovering Army bases/camps and uprooting
them

Support women teachers to


eliminate problem of sending girls
to the school
Ensure teachers are provided safety
during travel

Ensure a local representative for


the school to allay any fears of
the Pakistan army using it as a
base

Instil religion-neutral literature,


with equal importance given to
local (Urdu) as well as foreign
languages (English)

Control UN, US
presence to avoid
altercations

Make it difficult for


the army to capture
a school to be used
as a camp
