Learning Objective: Combine material balance equations, water influx calculations, and other
auxiliary equations (saturation, flow, and inflow) to predict recovery performance for reservoirs
with natural water drive.
Data:
Reservoir porosity = 0.25
Reservoir permeability = 1000 mD
Net pay = 50 ft
Average reservoir radius = 5000 ft
Initial reservoir pressure = 3330 psia
Reservoir is overlaid by a gascap (m = 0.2)
Residual oil saturation (Sor) = 0.2
Critical gas saturation (Sgcrit) = 0.05
Initial and irreducible water saturation (Swi) = 0.2
Relative permeability to oil and gas are correlated with saturations by the following formulae:
k ro = (S o S or )2 for S o > S or
k rg = S g S gcrit

Notes:
1. Use any incremental-iterative procedure to perform your calculations
2. Assume piston-like water and gascap displacement
3. Assume no water production and no gas production from gascap (i.e., gas production comes
from solution gas only)
4. Assume identical wells
5. Assume uniform saturation exists throughout the un-invaded zone
6. Assume uniform reservoir pressure
Calculate the following:
a) Initial oil and gas in place
b) Reservoir performance profiles as a function of time:
i. Average reservoir pressure
ii. Producing oil rate
iii. Producing gas rate
iv. Cumulative oil production
v. Total recovery factor
