New Delhi: The Delhi election campaign got uglier on

Monday with Aam Aadmi
Partys breakaway volunteer
group AVAM (AAP Volunteer
Action Manch) accusing the
party of money laundering.
Basing its charge on details of donations listed by
AAP on its website, AVAM alleged donations worth Rs 2

AAP: Form SIT to

probe party funding

eacting to allegations of
money laundering, Aam
Aadmi Party called for the
setting up of a special
investigation team under the
Supreme Court to look into the
funding of all political parties.
Last week, Arvind Kejriwal had
warned that mud slinging will
be carried out against AAP. This
is exactly what is happening,
said party member Yogendra
Yadav, adding that AAP would
not have put fund details online
if it had anything to hide. P 5

which have no resources to

make such donations.
The controversy, five days
before the assembly election
on February 7, had rival BJP at
AAPs throat, accusing it of hypocrisy regarding its transparent mode of funding. Congress, too, attacked AAP for its
alleged double-speak and demanded an immediate probe .
Refusing to react directly
to the charge, senior AAP
members said the party has

accepted every payment by

cheque and asked for the donors PAN card details. Beyond that, they said, they
didnt have the wherewithal to
check the source of money.
They added that AAPs accounts have been inspected
twice by the home ministry
and nothing wrong has been
found with them. AAP said it
was open to a probe by a Supreme Court-monitored SIT.
Still, it seemed odd that as
much as Rs 2 crore came into
its kitty in one day nine
months ago, and AAP leaders,
including Arvind Kejriwal,
who is a former IRS officer,
didnt wake up to the sudden
flood of money. At the same

4 FIRMS WITH NO INCOME GAVE 50 LAKH EACH

WHATS THE CHARGE?
4 companies, allegedly without any known
income, donated 50 lakh each to AAP on the
same day, same time April 5, 2014, 12am
AVAM, a breakaway AAP group, made the
disclosure and alleged this was a case of
money laundering. It claimed there were
31 more such dubious entities in the AAP
donor list and it would make fresh disclosures
One Hem Prakash Sharma is director in

additional director of 56

SOME UNANSWERED QUESTIONS

time, it might be argued that if
AAP indeed had something to
hide, why would it put it out in
the open on the internet?
Making the sensational
disclosure at a press meet,
AVAMs Gopal Goel said, We
have four transaction IDs under which donations of Rs 50
lakh each were made by four
companies at 12 am on April 5,
2014. The firms have fake addresses, a common set of directors and no business at all.
They dont buy or sell anything. They make no money
and only pay auditors. Theres
never been more than Rs 25,000
in their accounts at any point
of time. This is a case of organized money laundering.

All the four companies existed even

before AAP was formed. At least three of
them have paid-up capital of 1 crore

Why didnt AAP wake up

account, when it says

Dictatorial Bedis

Kejriwal goes to EC
over casteist ad

AAP will get 35

seats, BJP 29: Poll

JP campaign committee
member Narendra Tandon
quit the party on Monday
morning saying it had become
difficult to work with CM
candidate Kiran Bedi because
of her dictatorial attitude,
but later withdrew his
resignation after meeting
party president Amit Shah. In
his resignation letter, Tandon
claimed Bedis staff had
insulted him several times. He
later said: There were some
issues, but now it is all
settled. However, he may no
longer remain part of the
campaign committee, said
BJP sources. P 2

war of words broke out

between AAP and BJP over
an advertisement that the
latter got published in
newspapers on Monday,
reports Neha Lalchandani.
The ad caricatures Arvind
Kejriwal, saying he belongs to
a gotra (sub-caste) of
upadravi (rowdy) people.
Kejriwal, whose actual gotra
is Agarwal, demanded an
apology from BJP for having
insulted the entire
community. He later lodged a
complaint with the EC against
BJP, which filed a countercase saying AAP had given a
casteist colour to the ad. P 2

AP will emerge as the

single largest party with
35 seats, just one short of
majority, according to an
opinion poll conducted by
ABP News-Nielsen. BJP is
projected to get 29 seats
while Congress will get just
six in the 70-member House,
according to the poll. AAP
chief Arvind Kejriwal emerges
as the most preferred chief
ministerial candidate among
48% of those polled, followed
by BJPs Kiran Bedi with 42%.
AAP is tipped to be the largest
party with 37% vote share
ahead of BJP (33%) and
Congress (18%). P 6

New Delhi: Targeting yet another Christian place of worship in the capital, vandals
broke into St Alphonsa
Church in south Delhi early
Monday morning and fled
with a chalice kept on the altar after scattering its holy
contents on the ground.
Although police termed it
a case of burglary, church officials said it was an act of

This is the fifth alleged attack
on a church in two months,
starting with the burning of
St Sebastians Church in east
Delhi on December 1.
