Was born Georgia Blanche Douglas Camp
Johnson
Born in Atlanta to Laura Douglas and
Camp Johnson
Her mother was African American and
Native American
Her father was African American and had
English heritage.

Early Adulthood
Graduated from Atlanta University in
1896.
Georgia married Henry Lincoln Johnson
in 1903. Henry Lincoln Johnson was a
successful African American lawyer.
They had two sons, Henry Lincoln
Johnson Jr., and Peter Douglas Johnson.
In 1910, President Taft appointed Henry
as the Recorder of Deeds, and the
family moved to Washington D.C.

Career
Georgia began her career by
submitting poetry to newspapers and
magazines.
Her first published poem was
published in the newspaper, The
Voice of the Negro, in 1905.
