1. Name and briefly describe the societal forces that have contributed to
the need for project management.
They are several societal forces that have contributed to the need for project
management:The increase in human knowledge, which leads to the formation of new
academic disciplines for solving issues relating production, development,
scheduling and distribution of goods and services.
The growing demand for more complex and customized goods and services
triggers the need of having the product design in line with the distribution and
production systems. This would make the product more flexible in terms of the
needs of different individuals.
The worldwide market forces the managerial decisions to include the cultural
and environmental differences to have a clear picture of what, where, when and
how to build and distribute results.
The strong competitions between the companies also make the need for project
management. Every company creates new techniques for profits, quality control
and various other methods, the responses must be faster and decides should be
sooner.
3. Describe the limitations of project management.
The limitations of project management:
Policy violations occur given the extent of autonomy required for project
management.
It leads to organizational complexity.
It often becomes difficult to predict the budget schedule and various
customer requirements.
Low personal utilization.
Conflict is an inherent side effect of project Management
The project manager does not have sufficient authority to take control of a
conflict.

7. How do projects, program, tasks and work packages differ?

I would explain the following four terms by taking the example of building a
CAR.
Program- A program has a long range objective, which is broken down to set
of projects. For example, Building an car is a program, which consists of
various, projects which together help in making the car.
Project- Project is the subdivision of the program. In building the car the
projects would include design of car, manufacturing the desired parts,
ensuring safety of the passengers.
Task- This is defined as the unit of work within a project. It has to be done
on time.
Work Package- To ensure that the materials used are within the budget is a
work package as far as making a car in concerned.
