Classroom Discussion Contract

In order to effectively communicate with my classmates, I agree to abide by the

following rules:
1. I will be a good listener. I will not interrupt when others are speaking. Class
discussions are more productive when we speak one at a time.
2. I will be respectful of others opinions even if what they say seems
unreasonable, silly, insulting, prejudice, or hurtful to me. I will not react by
making fun of them. I will instead think first and then counter with a well
thought out response.
3. I understand that some topics may make me feel uncomfortable. I may even
be frustrated by what is being said. I will try not to be judgmental and will
work hard at understanding the issues that are being discussed.
4. I will use credible sources to back up my ideas and statements. I will
acknowledge the sources I have used.
5. I will not be afraid to ask questions. My questions may create a dialogue for
lively discussions and successful learning.
6. By following these guidelines, I will do my part to create a positive learning
environment where others are treated respectfully to promote positive
communication.
