Troubleshooting commands

Command

Description

ROUTING PROTOCOLS
Sh ip ospf neighbor

Check that all neighbors have a full or 2way or that


they have actually been formed.

Sh ip ospf database

This checks all the LSAs types received and from


which area. The Link ID and the ADVising router.

Sh ip ospf
Sh ip ospf interface brief

Check that all interfaces are functioning in OSPF,


this router acts as an ABR to the MBN network.

Sh ip protocol

Shows protocol in use, the networks being


advertised, routing sources, the router ID, if
redistribution is in operation and in the case of
OSPF the type of router ( ABR etc)

Sh ip bgp

Sh bgp routing table

Sh ip bgp summary

Summary BGP peer information

Sh ip bgp neighbor A.B.C.D

Displays detailed information regarding the BGP


peer, status, communications and much more.

Sh ip bgp peer-group <NAME>

If the Peer is a member of a peer group this


command will show all the attributes associated
with the BGP peer-group.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Sh interface type/num

Display interface and properties.

Clear counters type/num

Clear the counters on the interface

Ping A.B.C.D

Ping target address

Ping <RETURN>

Enters the extended ping menu

Traceroute A.B.C.D

Trace route to given IP address

MPLS COMMANDS
Sh ip bgp vpnv4 vrf V20:MBN

Check for routes to other parts of the network


within the MBN VRF.

Sh ip route vrf V20:MBN

Check if a route exists from the MBN network to a


remote network.

Sh mpls ldp neighbor

Make sure that the LDP neighborship is


established between adjacent MPLS routers

Sh mpls forwarding-table

View the LFIB this holds details of table bindings


and the next hop. This can be used to track how
packets are traversing the network.
