It was established in 1957, officially called the EU 2009 and the original

The European Union helps to bring people together in Europe for a more
peaceful society. It makes it easier to buy and sell goods throughout nations in
the EU.

The European Council deals with the big decisions. The European Parliament
decides if the European Commissions suggestions should be made into new
laws. The European Commission does day to day work in the EU. And the
presidency is re-elected every six months.

Pro-Europe people think Britain will benefit from being part of a larger group of
countries. They want the UK to start using the euro currency.

They believe that the UK is different than the other European nations. They

The first aim of the EU is to promote economic & social progress. The second
is to speak for the European Union on the international scene. Third is to
introduce European citizenship. Fourth is to develop Europe as a area of
freedom, security, and justice. Last is to maintain and build on established EU
laws.
