SOCWK 300 SOCIAL WORK PRACTICE II

MACRO ASSIGNMENTS
Each student will be expected to volunteer/observe/shadow in an agency(ies) or
organization involved in activities related to macro practice. The student may
choose from three different types of venues: governmental or political sector,
advocacy groups, and/or community-based organizations that address a social
problem. Students will also interview with a macro social worker (interview
questions posted) and attend a board meeting (write-up form posted).Students
would be wise to choose an agency similar in focus to their career goals and/or
select someone to interview who participates in a role such as the one theyre
playing in the classroom-as-organization simulation. The total experience can
include interviews, observation, shadowing, group participation in projects or
special events, and should include observation of a board meeting. The 3
elements of this assignment (agency involvement, board meeting attendance,
and a social worker interview) do not need to be related. The Cultural
Competence Assessment may also be done in tandem with this assignment.
This Plan of Action is due Week 5.

Comments re: your plans: I plan on interviewing and performing the cultural
competence assessment with Ken Adkins. We have already been in contact and
he informed me that it is possible to attend a board meeting and will be arranged
after our interview. I will also be shadowing him following the interview and
cultural competence assessment. I am also helping plan a major event for
LifeStream, the Legacy Event, which is an annual fundraiser.
