1.0 Introduction
SDCAD is a CAD software Plug-in, which completely runs on intelliCAD platform of ZwCAD
software. With SDCAD, the familiar AutoCAD workflow and interface embedded in ZwCAD
software enables you to get to work right away with minimal training.
It creates production drafts more accurately and efficiently. Keying less data manually saves
you time and reduces errors and also it automates traverse adjustment with side shots,
subdivisions, transformations, boundary formation and description, survey points, and feature
codes from your field survey data. SDCAD can also handle raster data with important
georeferencing tool.
After you complete design, SDCAD enables you to capture drawing errors and to perform quick
calculation with required outputs such as area calculation and exporting NEZ coordinates for
setting out data back in the field.
This software may be bound to have errors but tested thoroughly to produce quality data.
Your valuable comments regarding this software is highly appreciated so that Research and
Development Branch can come up with new improvements in future versions.
If you have any queries with the SDCAD software, feel free to dial 0714399201.
Supdt. of Surveys,
Research and Development Branch,
Surveyor Generals Office,
Colombo - 05,
Sri Lanka.
July 2009.
Enter User Name and Company Name and click on Anyone who uses this computer
icon. Click NEXT to proceed installing SDCAD in the computer.
After completion, restart your computer before proceeding into SDCAD registration.
Start ZWCAD software. At command prompt, type MNU and press enter. Then
following Dialogue Box appears to register SDCAD software module.
In the Dialogue, installation code appears with alphanumeric digits. Write down this code
and convey it to Research and Development Branch, SGO, Colombo-05 to get eight (08)
digits alphanumeric activation code.
Type activation code in the Authorization code text input box with all characters
UPPERCASE and press OK for activation.
Now you are done. Congratulations for using SDCAD software module.
From SDCAD menu click on Traverse Adjustment with Side Shots > Open Trv. Data File
to Adjust.
Following Dialogue Box appears to select raw coordinate file (NEZ file) with comma
delimited format.
Click open to proceed. Then from the coordinate file, program will automatically track
whether the traverse is a Close traverse or Open traverse.
If the traverse is a close circuit, enter relevant Bearings and Closeness Factor as shown in
following Dialogue Box.
If the traverse is an open circuit, following Dialogue will appear to enter similar parameters.
Click OK to adjust the traverse. If the traverse is closed, following message will appear.
On traverse adjustment, four data files are created in the same directory where the raw
coordinate file is located (part of the name with that of raw cood. data file.)
These four files include Length and Bearing observation file and three separate files in
compliance with Annexures 2, 5 & 7 in Chapter XXI of the Departmental Survey
Regulations (DSR) on Digital Data Management.
If the traverse is misclosed due to angular error, following Dialogue Box will appear.
In such a case please refer to Length and Bearing observation file for further investigation.
If the traverse is misclosed due to coordinate misclosure following message will appear.
4.2 Adjustment with data collected by Conventional method (Theodolite and Tape)
From SDCAD menu click on Traverse Adjustment with Side Shots > Create Trv. Data
File manually
Enter Starting Station and Closing Station coordinates and then using Add button, enter
station data and radial shots taken from traverse stations if side shots are available
adopting same data collection procedure as described in Appendix I.
After entering all data, if it is required to change some input values, select relevant row in
the list and click on modify or double click on the row to be modified to get the following
Dialogue Box.
Change the input data if necessary and click on Change button to modify the list.
Similarly, if it is required to remove rows added, user can select row(s) by pressing Shift
key and on selection, user can click on Remove button.
After completion of all editing/ modification on data entered in the list, next step is to save
data using Save button.
Once saved, two files are automatically created; one is the processed Coordinate file with
the given file name at the time of saving with txt extension. The other file is the raw data
file with underscore at the end of file name with raw extension.
Out of these two files, Coordinate file can be used for traverse adjustment using the
function described under sub-section 4.1 while Raw Data file can be open using the
Open button in the above Dialogue Traverse Adjustment with conventional method.
The importance of the Raw Data File is that it can be open and then add, remove or edit
data before saving the Coordinate file.
If a layer that is to be created is already existing, a message will appear at the command
prompt as e.g. Layer TEXT-TPN already exists.
Default is the 2D selection. If default is selected, Data Format Dialogue appears to choose
one of the required given formats.
If option 1 or 2 is chosen, 2D points will be drawn with feature code as label and if option 3
or 4 is chosen, 2D points will be drawn with elevation and feature code as labels after label
parameter selection (scale and Text Height) in the Dialogue Box.
Output scale is to be predetermined with the relevant text label height for the base scale
( 1:1000 scale).
Click OK to draw 2D points automatically with Point Number, Point Node, feature code and
elevation label if any, in respective layers as given in Chapter XXI of the DSR on Digital Data
Management.
If 3D selection is selected from the Coordinate System Dialogue, following Data Format
Dialogue appears to choose one of the required given formats similar to procedure explained
above. But this time data is in 3D format.
10
On the Dialogue Box by default above values appear for Starting Lot No, Scale and Text
Height. Type different values if necessary (Text Height must be based on Scale) and
Press OK.
At Command Prompt, Pick close to starting end of line from where offsets are to be
scored in the direction of survey.
As picked, traverse line is selected. Then Enter slope angle if measured to reduce
traverse distances of particular line, otherwise just press Enter to accept default.
Then enter traverse distances and their offsets and pick correct side of the offset with
mouse to draw offsets with corresponding point numbers. When needed to switch to
next traverse line type N and press enter. Similarly follow same procedure as
mentioned above to draw other offsets.
When finished, just press enter at ZWCAD Command: New Line <Traverse Distance:>
to quit application.
Note: If the function is invoked again after quitting Offset Calculation, Starting Point No. is
automatically assigned as the next incremented number to the last Point No. added.
9.0 Fixation
From SDCAD menu, select Fixation to get the following Dialogue.
11
Common control points of source object and destination object can be selected either by
picking with mouse/specifying coordinates at prompt or by typing point numbers if
available.
Once selection is completed, following Dialogue appears to select objects to fix with.
When object selection is finished, data are automatically fixed with destination object in a
layer called BOUND-TR-GEN.
Then program prints the residuals of each control point. This is very much useful to give a
better fixation by removing control points with higher residuals. If text objects are also
included in selecting source objects to be fixed, after fixation, source object text and
residuals are assigned to layer Text-TR.
Note: For a better fixation three or more common control points must be selected. Also,
source and destination objects must be of the same scale.
Note: This function will check dangles on selected line features only. If you have objects on
layers that are not needed for dangle checking, switch off layers. Please note that this
function does not check dangles of polylines.
12
If area calculation is a new task, choose New File (already selected as default), type
required Lot No., Scale and relevant Text Height and click on OK if you have already
printed Lot Nos.
Then following dialog box appears to specify a location and file to save calculated extent of
the lots.
13
Then pick inside lot to print extent. Now Lot No. of the parcel clicked is verified by an alert
message. Then pick next parcel. Follow the same procedure till the end of all parcels
and press enter or click right mouse to quit area calculation.
Extent in Ha/ A.R.P and m2 together with number of vertices and acceptable error (vide
DSR 14.14) is written in the saved file and it pops up on the screen as follows.
It is also possible to print Lot Nos. at the time of calculating extent of lots when Radio
button on the above Dialogue is checked. Once Radio button is checked Lot no. 1 is
assigned to Starting Lot No., if no lotting has already been done. If Lot nos. are existing,
Starting Lot No is assigned the next incremented Lot no to the last Lot added.
Click on lots one by one and after end, right click to view extent data in the saved file.
Note: When you calculate the extent of a parcel, make sure that you have set unnecessary
layers off and see that the entire parcel is displayed on screen and correct area is hatured.
Area hatch and the extent labels are automatically placed in a layer called AREA.
14
Select the appropriate Comma Delimited Format from the Survey Co-ordinate File
Point Size in Absolute units determines the Point Feature Dot size.
Change the point size according to requirement (default is 0.35mm at 1:1K scale)
Click OK button to get following Dialogue Menu.
15
From SDCAD Tools menu, select Blocking out > Sliding to get following Dialogue Box.
```````
Select extent units; type required extent to cut out and text height to print extent.
Also input required checking Interval. Checking interval controls the leaping distance of the
line.
Then input the number of blocks to be cut out.
Press enter. Then Select objects at command prompt, select cut out line just drawn.
Pick inside lot closer to the fixed boundary of the Lot.
Then line starting moving and finally fixing required extent and thereby printing the extent
inside Lot.
16
15.2 Direction
This is similar to Line Blocking out option. Only difference is that direction right angle to the
line which is going to be slided in order to get the required distance can be defined by
picking two points with mouse or specifying coordinates at ACAD command prompt.
Note: This function will be useful in cases where parcels are in odd-shapes.
15.3 Rotation
Draw a line in order to cut out required extent at the fixed point about which cut out line is
to be rotated in order to get the required extent.
From SDCAD Tools menu, select Blocking out > Rotation to get following Dialogue Box.
17
Default numbering option is Manual. When this is selected user is allowed to enter any
number for the new point inserted on his/her wish.
Input the required Scale and Text Height and Click OK.
At the command prompt: Enter Point Number.
Then pick on exact location to create point.
Now, at the command prompt, Point Description<> appears.
If you just press enter, Point Description becomes Null (no point description added).
Otherwise, input Point Description is printed in the reserved layer.
When you pick on next point, Point Description is automatically assigned the previous Point
Description label. If it is correct, just press enter. Otherwise enter a new description and
proceed to next point location.
If you select Auto Increment option, at the command prompt, you can assign a Starting
Point Number (Default is set to 1). Then as you pick on places where you need points, point
is automatically incremented by 1. However, you can assign/ change Point Description as
mentioned under Manual option.
17.0 2D Transformation
From SDCAD Tools menu, select 2D Transformation to get following Dialogue Box.
control points.
When New option is chosen following input box will appear to enter number of control
points (number of control points must be grater than or equal 3).
Click OK and pick the first point on the image. Following input box will appear to input
coordinates of first point as shown below.
Pick points and enter coordinates as explained above for all points.
After entering coordinates of all points, a message will appear to check Root Mean Square
(RMS) error on georeferencing.
Click OK. Image will be automatically georeferenced and RMS error will appear in a List
box as follows with the residual of each point.
19
Note: When New option is used, control point information is automatically saved in a filled
called Control in the ZwCAD 2008i Eng default directory (e.g. C:\Program Files\ZwCAD
2008i Eng).
If the RMS error is not within the error allowed, two options are available:
Option 1: check if the control point coordinates of each point are correctly entered in
the saved control point file and edit it if coordinates are wrong.
Option 2: Remove control points in the saved Control file having higher residuals if
sufficient control points have been picked and save the Control file.
After performing either of options, again click georeferencing tool and choose Use
Existing option to select already saved Control file.
Then pick image points in order as control point appearing sequence in the Control file to
perform georeferencing.
20
Default selection is Range. When this is selected, a user can assign a range in the
following Dialogue Box to extract coordinates in an ascending order.
When clicking OK, following SAVE Dialogue Box appears to save extracting coordinate
data in a txt file.
21
.
Default is the Buffer Distance Parameter. Enter the required Buffer Distance.
Then Pick inside the lot to be clipped as appearing in the command prompt.
Select entities outside Buffering Region that need to be retained in extracting Parcels
with Select entities prompt.
Clicks enter. Now Save Dialogue Box appears to save extracting data in a different
drawing file as shown below.
If Window option is used, a Window Selection can be done with a Bounding Box
either by picking lower left corner and upper right corner or specifying coordinates of
the two corners to extract data. Selecting entities outside the Bounding Box is similar
as described under Buffering Selection.
If Region option is used, a region can be defined either by picking points or specifying
coordinates of the points defining region. Selecting entities outside the region is similar
as described under Buffering Selection.
22
Note: Once a region is defined, when you need to close to the Starting point to enclose
region, right mouse click automatically closes from last point picked to Starting point of the
region.
If duplicate lots are found, following message will appear to confirm duplicate lots.
When click OK, duplicate lot numbers will appear in a List box as follows.
23
If you just press enter or type N, this function does not do the conversion and quits giving
following message.
If you type Y, all lines will be converted into 2D format following message appears.
Note: This function will convert all lines in 3D into 2D. Poly lines are not converted.
APPENDIX I
Observation procedure for Traverse Adjustment
Record starting point coordinates in the Total Station in the following format:
9000,1000.00,2000.00,7.56,stnLP
Then record closing point coordinates in the same manner. Closing point number can
be assigned any number greater than 9000 as it is not a parameter or output point
number in the adjustment program.
9008,1234.45,2512.50,3.43,stnRP
Then observe side shots and record with point numbers and codes. According to
Chapter XXXI of the Departmental Survey Regulations on Digital Data Management,
side shot point numbers should be less than 9000.
e.g. 1, 1123.45,423.56,1.5,WF
2, 1126.45,429.51,12.5,BW
.......... ...........
......................
Orient the instrument to the Back Station using Back Azimuth. Do not record back
station observation.
After completion of observing side shots, finally observe the forward station and record
data with point number greater than 9000.
e.g. 1, 1123.45,423.56,1.5,WF
2, 1126.45,429.51,12.5,BW
.
9001, 1345.673,1098.456,1.5,stnCP
Carry out the same procedure observing and recording all side shots before sighting
next forward traverse station until you observe and record closing station observation.
At the closing station, observe and record side shots if available and close to the
starting station and record its traverse station observations.
If the traverse is an open traverse, from the closing station observe side shots if
available and close to the next forward known station and record data of the forward
station.
Example figures of the traversing procedure of the two types of traverse are given
below.
Note: When running a traverse, a new observation to an inner traverse station must be
recorded as a side shot (not as a traverse point; i.e. point no < 9000 to be used).
