    This literature review examines variables that influence excessive force in police. It summarizes one study that analyzed the relationship between police education, age, experience, and ethnicity on use of force. The study surveyed 511 officers across three mainly minority cities about their use of force, acceptance of others' use of force, demographics, and education. The findings showed that among patrol officers, higher education predicted less frequent and lower levels of force use. Younger officers generally used more force, but more experienced officers used more force even when accounting for age. Officers who reported greater personal use of force were also less accepting of use of force in general.
