SMET Squared Project

Inclined Plane
The inclined plane is an angled
surface used to decrease the
amount of effort needed to
move something upward or
downward.
Our inclined plane is used at
the beginning to roll a marble
faster so that it will reach a
tube.
The inclined plane is made of
cardboard

Lever
Our lever is a set of dominoes that
knocks each other over and hits a
marble that rolls through a tube into
the next teams machine.
The material used to make the
domino is more than likely ABS
plastic
A lever is a rigid bar resting on a
pivot, used to help move a load at
one end by applying pressure at
another end

Pulley
Our pulley is activated at the
beginning by us in order to raise
a wedge and roll a marble into a
tube.
Our pulley is made of plastic
KNex pieces, a plastic cup, and a
wooden wedge.
A pulley is a grooved wheel with
a cable around it used to
decrease force needed to lift an
object

Screw
Our screw is used in the middle of
the machine to transport a marble
downwards to a wheel that knocks
over dominoes.
Our screw is made of cardboard,
glue, and a whole mess of duct
tape.
A screw is an inclined plane
wrapped around a surface.

Wedge
Our wedge is used in the start of the
machine to prevent a marble from
moving, so that we have a controlled
start.
Our wedge is made of wood.

A wedge is an inclined plane that is

driven under or into another surface to
as to separate or secure the surface.

Wheel and Axle

Our wheel and axle is hit by a
marble, and then continues to hit a
set of dominoes, which in turn hit
another marble that starts the next
groups machine.
Our wheel is made of two KNex
pieces with duct tape wrapped
around them.
The wheel and axle is a lever arm
fixed to a shaft, called an axle. The
wheel and axle transfers energy by
rolling
